Among other things, Marjery either collects coffee carafes or is a REALLY heavy java drinker (note the dozen or so pots behind her in the photo. Whoa, girl!

Thanks, Steve, for noticing there are a few women audiophiles. I've been a professional audio engineer for more than 20 years, have owned a recording studio and am a record producer. Despite 5 Grammy nominations and a couple of gold records, I didn't join the audiophile community until a few years ago. I've discovered there are even FEWER women in there! I hope that changes, but in the mean time, let's just say... I get a lot of attention at audio shows. People seem to remember me, so it's not all so bad.. :D

I've also pioneered a proprietary 5.1 recording technique and am currently releasing 96K downloads weekly at Blue Coast Records, a label I founded a few years ago. The audiophile community is the place I want to be!

I'm happy to meet other women who love sound. Hi Margery and all you other ladies. Come visit me! I have an espresso machine and about 12 different pair of speakers to check out!

Here is another one. I love the sound, design and technical aspect of systems and read test reports all the time. I spent hours and hours in audio sessions at high-end audio stores. If I had the financial resources I would have more equipment but I have a pretty good system already. My system was always the first thing I installed when I moved. I am wondering myself why there are so few women into this...I have been obsessed with music pretty early on. Years ago I had fun with confusing audio sales people when they turned to my male companion and I asked the questions. My friends took me along for advice. Maybe this passion has to do with my background in design and my professional attention to detail, but it is probably the other way around because I started out with music.

I've been thinking about investing in a vinyl rig for a while. I wasn't around for the "golden age of music", so I don't even know where to start. Is it worth it to put some cash into a good turntable and a solid cartridge, even when new albums are so hard to find?

Of course! And you don't need all new vinyl. There is plenty of fab used vinyl around.

15 sites that went kaput in 2009

Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About The Audiophiliac

Ex movie theater projectionist Steve Guttenberg has more or less successfully hitched his future to home theater, but he still pines for the clickity-clack of 35 MM projectors and all the stale popcorn he could eat. Between projectionist gigs he worked as a high-end audio salesman for sixteen years, and produced records for an audiophile label. Oh, and one more thing, nothing annoys Steve more than being confused with the other Steve Guttenberg, the washed-up Police Academy actor. The wordsmith Guttenberg is a frequent contributor to a number of magazines and websites including Home Entertainment, Playback, and Ultimate AV. He is a member of the CNET Blog Network and is not an employee of CNET. Disclosure.
