Comments on: Wait continues for iPhone 3G at Apple store

The iTunes server issues that turned Friday morning's launch into a debacle are gone, but count on at last a two-hour wait for an iPhone 3G today.

Eeps! I arrived at my Apple Store at 5:30 and was #27 in line. I was surprised that it took 1:30 for me to get my new iPhone (albeit painless besides the wait), I feel bad for people who got there later.

For me... nighmare... but Apple store manager seriously made up for it.
Arrived at store 7:30 A.M. Stepped foot in store 11:45 A.M. Greeted and started purchase process 1:00 P.M. Long long long story involving 2 managers, 5 attempts at activation, 3 phone calls to AT&T (speaking to a total of 5), 2 calls to Apple Special Operations.... and 5 hours later (O.K. only 4; I came home, took a shower, and ate dinner before going back out to Apple store) I walked out with my Apple store.
What are you going to do... nothing but laugh and make a party out of it. When life give you lemons make lemon Daiquiris. No point in getting mad over something you (nor the Apple employees trying to help) have no control over. It was all AT&T's fault.
In the end I got a couple of accessories competed to me for being just a jovial sport about the long wait.

You're taking the right attitude toward all those minor problems. You should live a long life. After such a massive rollout of iPhones and the restricted activation process, I figured things might not go smoothly. It's not the middle of winter and the weather's rather nice. Kick back and enjoy some leisure time in the open air. ******** isn't going to help speed up things. Grab a book or a magazine and RELAX.

How is it AT&T's fault?

"Apple's iTunes servers crashed under the weight of the worldwide launch."

after waiting in two lines at at&t stores that both ran out almost instantly, my friend and i went to an apple store and waited (no joke) 6 hours and 45 minutes before getting a phone.

The server issue seems to have been fixed in spades around 1:00 PT. What can't be fixed, apparently, is Woz' ego. He showed up at Valley Fair mall in San Jose with several loser friends, proceeded to ignore many of the people who tried to make conversation, and to top it off, just invited himself into the #1 spot in line as the doors opened. What a jerk - just barged in front of the 200-odd people (many of whom had been there LONG before his bigness) who were already waiting.

While hundreds of people took off of work, brought their own chairs, etc, Woz just sat like a roast in gravy until it was 8:00, then took several of his friends (we called them the "p*ssy posse) in ahead of everyone else. That salt and pepper has-been needs a reality check - why can't he stay at home and get one by FedEx the day of the launch, just like the rest of Jobs' friends? I'd always admired the guy until I got a chance to see how big his ego is in person. (Hint: almost as big as he is.)

I don't blame Woz for cutting the line... I blame all 200-odd of you that didn't jump is F@T @$$ and shoved him to the back of the line. But hey, that's why he did it at the Valley Fair Mall and not in New York.... Cuz he knew he'd jumped.

Don't blame Woz, or Apple for the long delays.... blame yourselves. I mean honestly, is it that important to have it on the very first day? What do you think will happen? Maybe that girl you had a crush on in high school but wouldn't give you the time of day just might realize that you were the one all along? Or do you you think you will finally be invited to those A-list parties that you've been locked out from all your life?

Trust me, while you're showing off you new phone to everyone, thinking you're so cool, everyone is smiling at you while thinking to themselves, "Get a life, LOSER!!!". I'll admit I did the "gotta have it on the first day" thing with the original XBox in Times Square, NYC only to bring it home and leave it in my livingroom for 2 weeks before I even cracked it open. Wanna know why? Because a normal life was taking up my time. Stop being pwned be corporate crap and realize what's really important. Then go buy and iPhone 2.0. I plan on buying mine in a couple of weeks. :-)

This has been a public service announcement from the CSDA (Common Sense Department of America).

My wife and I waited 4 and 1/2 hours to get into the store only to find out 1 hour later that their servers were down for the night. They said they could not sell the phones. Bu!! ****.

I showed up at the downtown SF store at 7:30 pm, waited for 3 hours and got to just in front of the Apple store. Then, one of the orange shirt Apple guys came out and said "Bad news -- the server is down. It's going to be a while". About 30 min more pass and some blue shirt Apple people come out and start handing cards out. They said the server was down and no more phones will be sold tonight, but they gave us cards that reserved us our choice of iPhones and lets us go to the front of the line tomorrow. Oh well ? came close.

you all seem so suprised... dont you remember last year when all of the usa had problems with at&t hen trying to activate iphones?

c'mon, they probably sold quite a few million phones in the first 24 hours starting when New Zealand opened its vodafone stores.

I don't understand all these Apple fans. The first time the iPhone came out, all the rapid Apple users bought them right away - only to see Apple lower the price by $200 a couple of months later. And then to make up for it, Apple gave a $100 in-store credit to those who paid the higher price - of course, by then, half the people who bought them couldn't find their receipts. And even if you could, you were still down $100. Nice way to treat your loyal fans, Steve.

And now the new 3G version comes out, and it's cheaper yet - but not for anyone who bought the first phone. Why? Because the lower price only applies to new users. So all you Apple fans get screwed again.

So while I think the iPhone is pretty cool, I guess I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. Is Apple going to drop the price in a couple of months? Or maybe introduce a new 32GB phone for Christmas? Mark my words, Apple is going to find a way to screw you all a third time.

And you know why? Because they can. Because all you mindless fans will put up with whatever crap Apple chooses to dish out - and smile while their doing it.

It's your choice - but not mine. Steve Jobs, you have to earn my business. And right now, you haven't.

The cheaper price isn't just for new customers I'm an original iPhone owner and I only paid $299 for my 16 GB...and even better I sold my Original iPhone and so It's like I didn't really put any money out for my new one....so there hater!

I have to agree.

What does the iPhone 3G do that the original iPhone doesn't, other than have a GPS chip and be able to run on AT&T's limited coverage 3G network? Not a thing. Original iPhone owners can upgrade the software to 2.0 in order to buy the apps in iTunes, whenever ITunes is back up and running in order to unbrick their iBricks. Way to go Apple. You couldn't have anticipated this kind of demand? Your Apple Servers and network weren't properly prepared for the increased demand. This is why you won't find Apple Servers running in any sort of iCluster in any high volume business. So while all you old and new Apple victims are sitting at home this weekend with your iBricks (whether last year or this year's model), my unsexy, uncool, non-touch screen Blackjack 1.0 iWorks without any iProblems. Enjoy your new piece of iJunk.

I think it?s ridiculous that you have to wait in line in this time and period. I know there are disappointed long line waiting customers that are turned away due to out-of-stock and then have to come back the next day(mindless) to wait in line again. Come on?You would think apple learned it?s lesson on the first Iphone fiasco, having people wait in line then and now too. You gave your customers a launch date..Why not be better prepared and stocked to sell the brick. Why not be better prepared for the sales on day 1. The things that make u go Hummm?

After reading these comments so many people seem to just be haters that didn't participate in the experience. I did wait for my phone I thought my wait was gonna be 2 hours but it actually was about 8....yeah that's a long freaking wait and yeah it's crazy but it's whateves...I'm enjoying my new phone and was able to sell my old iphone for a very good price. I'll say this once I got inside the process went smoothly...Maybe Apples servers are to blame but seriously for At&t to require the contracts to be signed really did add to the problems for instance I'm on a family plan I called AT&T to make sure I was authorized to make account decisions come to find out that Apple didn't really have access to account info so the primary had to be there another at&t issue they said I was gonna have to pay the extra $200 for a phone which I think if I had gone to the at&t store I woulda paid but in the apple store I only paid $300 for the 16GB...all that being said I met some funny people in the line and while the line may have sucked I didn't have anything better planned for that day!

All of the iPhone 2.0 buzz aside, how about something truly astonishing: I was denied entrance to an Apple store today where I wanted to purchase a Mac Book as a gift. I was told I had to stand in line just to get into the store period. Just ... wow. This particular store is always fairly busy, but today it was no more busy than usual. Now it's just stupid. I'm not upgrading my iPhone 2.0 - I just want to drop $1200 on a Mac Book. But I'm not allowed to even enter the store unless I wait in a line.
