Don't know if the real story is the iPhon's 3G GSM technology or the ITMS.
The 3G is not as available as it is in other latitudes, and the GPS is not a true GPS.
On the other hand iTunes has to change, the ITMS has to change and in a dramatic way to allow the multiple downloads that are there, new software for the iPhone's lib. same as with the iPod Touch.

*** are you talking about "not a true GPS"?
it actually is, but it goes one step further with assistance from cell towers and wifi triangulation, hence the 'a' in aGPS.
i'm willing to ultimate fight you on this point...lol.

I just tried to update my original iPhone to 2.0 software and during the update I received a warning message that iTunes store could not be connected and I now have a phone that is only allowing emergency calls. Has anybody had this problem today? Also, it is impossible to contact Apple tech support. Any suggestions?

I live in Lawrence, KS... got my 3G iPhone around 9:45 CST from ATT store, and am still waiting for it to connect with iTunes. Frustrating. They un-bricked ours, and then told us we had to head home and connect it to iTunes for it to work. Only thing I can do is use it for emergencies. Got a cord pointing to iTunes icon on phone. Anyone else having any luck?

What an enormous waste of time for product that still isn't ready. I'm a devoted Apple products owner (from 128K Mac to Intel Macbook Pro, iPods (ten of them!) and even an Apple TV. The iPhone just doesn't cut it. It's a crappy phone, ATT is a horrible service provider and although it will eventually be a good product, having 6.5 million "beta" testers is shameful. Apple needs to start making products that actually work and are fully tested before releasing them. Also why would anyone stand in line for any consumer item? Are your lives that devoid of meaning that the only way you can live is to purchase one more piece of consumer junk? BTW my phone? Verizon Blackberry 8830.

If you are so happy with your Blackberry and Verizon, why even bother and waste your time on the iPhone article. I guess deep inside your secretly coveting it. LOL

Got into line at one of the three AT&T corporate stores in Evansville, IN at about 7:30 local time. There were about 40 people ahead of me. After some VERY slow line movement and comments from people coming out about computer issues, we were finally told that they were out of 16GB models, but they could order fulfill and receive tomorrow morning for an extra $14.95. By the time I got in, they were completely out.

Why so few devices? Worldwide launch?

You know what? Some might say... Mediabroker saved the world in 2003, then again, its voice recognition actually allowed you to grab your media directly from the Studios. Even THR and PWC thought it a SMALL solution idea running the prototype on any 3G phone:

Things would've been a lot easier early-on the Carriers and Consumers in this rosy and intelligent world!

I'd love to get my hands on an iPhone, unfortunately with almost $1000 for the 16 GB version, we've got the most expensive iPhone of the whole world. :(

Guess i'll have to wait (and save) a while longer.
If you're interested I wrote a story about the iPhone ordeal at http://www.hypedworld.com called: Smurfs, French Fries and the most expensive iPhone in the World :)

How come Apple has not said ONE WORD about this!? They might think its not a big deal, but if you got news organizations and web blogs with negative views about it, where is the damage control?

I would like Apple to at least give a statement on this "fubar"' launch.
