Actually, it would be great to hear voices from the ground sound-off for coverage, or at least leave their reply. Is that possible?

iPhone is down. Steve Jobs should have been smart enough to release the new iTunes on monday and then allow current iPhone users to upgrade the software on wednesday. When you have all these people trying to update and activate at the same time the network cant take the heavy load. My 2nd generation iPhone is now locked up. I went to the AT&T store and they have not been able to unbrick any of the new iPhones. So currently very few people who upgraded or bought a new phone are able to use them.

DO NOT DO THE 2.0 UPGRADE YET! It bricks your iPhone because the iTunes store is swamped right now. I had to leave my phone at home, bricked today until things calm down. It downloads the update, installs it, then the phone cannot register. Probably by tomorrow or so it will work.

Why is it that everyone is always afraid to be the first to download the latest Microsoft service pack, but we all get excited to be the guinea pig for the newest Apple upgrade. Now instead of a phone I have a brick. From now on i will treat Apple with the same speculation and doubt that I give to Microsoft. Im not a happy camper today, but its not like we all didnt see this coming.

I cannot believe people in this country or any where else would waste the amount of money that these Iphones cost. They are just plain trash.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About Apple

At the start of the 21st century, there's no tech outfit more influential than Apple. CNET News' Erica Ogg and other reporters will attempt to make sense of the rumors, hype, products, and people that will shape the future of the company. But Apple's not the only game in town, as the established cell phone companies and others strike back against the iPhone. E-mail Erica at erica.ogg@cnet.com.
