Comments on: Nationwide iPhone shortage reported; 3G model soon?

Apple retail stores across the U.S. are reporting sold-out stocks of iPhones, which either means Apple is having distribution problems or a 3G model is around the corner.

If someone takes a ****, people think the 3G iPhone is coming.

Come on people, stick to your sources and stop reading the blogs
of people who don't matter in the industry...

I would go even farther: if Steve Jobs takes a ****, Apple fanboys buy it.

But this phenomenon of anxiously waiting for the 3G iPhone is perfectly normal and usual for a device that lacks features that most smartphones have for years already.
Recent order
by jumpjetta April 1, 2008 5:20 PM PDT
We ordered one last Tuesday and got a message it would ship
between March 30 - April 4. It actually shipped the next day and we
had it yesterday. It actually took longer for it to move from China to
Texas than the so-called delay.

Why so long for G3
by k2dave April 1, 2008 5:26 PM PDT
Hasn't this technology been out for cell phones before the iphone was introduced? Why was it not g3 to begin with is their any technical reason Apple produced the iphone with obsolete technology.

Think of all the loyal apple customers who bought the iphone, many will want this feature that should have been included when the iphone first came out, so they will have to pay apple more money and I can't think of a single reason apple would do this. What possible benefit would it be to apple to have their customers pay them more money. Well the non-replaceable battery is probably ready to die anyway.

do some research
by DKrudop April 1, 2008 5:45 PM PDT
1) The AT&T network was EDGE, not G3, that's why it was produced
as it was.

2) The REPLACEABLE (by Apple) battery is good for 400-500 FULL-
CYCLE charges. That means you'd let the battery completely
discharge before charging it up again. Most of us don't let the
battery completely die before charging....thus the life is extended
way beyond the minimum.

Have you done ANY research??
by RLFaris April 1, 2008 6:30 PM PDT
The reason Apple has not yet included 3G technology in the iPhone
is not because AT&T has a weak 3G network (They actually have a
very large and powerful one), but because the 3G chips use a LOT
of power, which is what Steve Jobs even said when he unveiled the
iPhone in January 2007, and speaking as a iPhone owner, i am
extremely satisfied with it and my battery still preforms better than
any of my previous phones batteries.
What an excellent question

"What possible benefit would it be to apple to have their customers pay them more money."

Or, maybe not?
iClone
by cyberDJ-2038765336053745013836 April 1, 2008 7:07 PM PDT
It's a shame that the Chinese clone of the iPhone already had 3G capability.

Apple is always 1-2 years behind where I think they should be as a company.

"Apple is always 1-2 years behind where I think they should be
as a company."

Maybe they'll hire you so that you can point out the obvious to
them. Then they can explain the hundred different reasons that
the "obvious" isn't.

3G chips use a lot of power. The Chinese knock-off of the
iPhone is bigger, heavier, and, well, isn't nearly an iPhone,
especially when it comes to what makes an iPhone special - the
software.

But then again, I'm sure you could point out that just anyone can
write software like this.
Two things to be noted here...
by Mugunth April 1, 2008 7:10 PM PDT
Firstly there is going to be an advanced model (could be 3G or could be the flip type device). Secondly, it would cost the same or marginally higher which is why, apple thinks that ppl are not ging to buy this outdated phone...

Uhhh news flash
by chonnom April 1, 2008 7:48 PM PDT
none of the iphone clones are 3g because there is no 3g in china. I had the Iorange F1 aka HiPhone and sent it back because it sucked. Get on sourcinggate, Deal Extreme, or DH Gate and show me a clone that's 3g; there isn't one. That said, Meizu is supposed to release the MiniOne by August which is supposed to be....and will be half the price of the iphone.

Another Ploy
by USDecliningDollar April 3, 2008 8:28 AM PDT
This is simply an Apple ploy. Tighten up the supply a bit, and suddenly the iPhone is a scare commodity that people want to have for themselves. Also, news bits on the "Nationwide iPhone Famine of 2008" puts this disposable consumer electronic "Made in China" P.o.S in the spotlight again.

BTW every iPhone that is purchased is a vote in support of the Chinese govt. beating the crap out of Tibetan monks. I often wonder how many iSheep have a "Free Tibet" sticker on their vehicles.

Steve Jobs takes a shit; new iShit device coming?
by Fil0403 April 5, 2008 4:42 AM PDT
I find it sad such excitement for a feature that most smartphones have had for years already. It just goes to show how feature-lacking this hyped device really is. What else in Apple's iPhone roadmap? Flash for 2010 and Java for 2015?
LOL, what a dumbphone.
