Anything that takes a three-year step back in performance, such as Palm's ill-fated Foleo device, can't be considered a blueprint for the future of the subnotebook, which was around long before Palm announced its mobile companion.
Don't buy these one-trick ponies--unless you like gizmos that gather dust.
The Net giant, ever eager for a faster Internet, debuts its Google Public DNS service. With it, Google could become even more central to the Net.
About Apple
At the start of the 21st century, there's no tech outfit more influential than Apple. CNET News' Erica Ogg and other reporters will attempt to make sense of the rumors, hype, products, and people that will shape the future of the company. But Apple's not the only game in town, as the established cell phone companies and others strike back against the iPhone. E-mail Erica at erica.ogg@cnet.com.

I actually could care less about the Foleo or whatever it's called. Yes, I get it- small form factor computers have been around for a while. I think you even make a few good points, but your efforts should be directed at covering something original rather than beating a dead horse.
All of this is IMHO.

Palm keeps building on their dated performance and OS, while iPhones, Windows Mobile and other platforms blow by them in leaps and bounds.
Palm should be acquired and dismantled for its brand and any shred of innovation that is left.
They should NOT try and release half-baked crap like this to the public. This is not 1994.

- Instant on. Does anyone understand instant on? Palm V like instant on and off. Instant (not from hibernate to on or moments later no shut down or hibernate or trying not to let the lid close cause you want to use it again in a minute, instant!). Instant on, wifi. SD expansion and native office documents is enough to make the Foleo an integral part of my life in class, on an airplane, in meetings and at the mall. I hate laptops and the lag they create and I don?t need to sit on YouTube for half my life. If I had the money I would start my own company and launch the Foleo in a heartbeat.

- Couldn't agree more, eeePC's are underpowered too, but they're trying to do a full scale job. Foleo would have been similar to how Palm OS trumped WinCE, Windows tried to do too much, Palm went for simplicity and usability.
