Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
At the start of the 21st century, there's no tech outfit more influential than Apple. CNET News' Erica Ogg and other reporters will attempt to make sense of the rumors, hype, products, and people that will shape the future of the company. But Apple's not the only game in town, as the established cell phone companies and others strike back against the iPhone. E-mail Erica at erica.ogg@cnet.com.

isn't a unit that can be swapped out, or upgraded by a
consumer. For those idiots complaining they can't carry their
complete multi-media library on their iPhone, seriously ... get
an actual iPod classic, or by a laptop to take with you.
I should have started out with a simple question. Is 100 dollars
really that much more to play for an iPhone with 16gb or flash
hd? I sympathize on the iTouch, it would have been nice if they
simply increased that price up by 50 dollars. But that would not
have made since to have a similar model only 50 dollars less, in
which case they would have had to drop the price of the current
model to have any chance of continued sales.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that complaining about
these prices is silly.
He keeps rolling out one high priced item after another. Even the elitist, gotta-have-an-Apple-at-any-price crowd, is wearing thin. His new customer is "Average" Joe & Jane. With Americans losing homes at a rate of 7000 per day, Steve needs to offer recession style incentives like lower prices and/or bundled packages that include free trial movies & songs. Apple has over $15 billion in the bank and can easily afford exciting promotions without denigrating it's pricey, elitist, out-of-the-box-thinking, sex appeal.
He owes it to shareholders to drive sales up. The stock plunges every time he announces these pathetic over-priced-for-these-times rollouts. Everyone is scratching his or her head in total disbelief wondering if he's lost his game once again.
(One for the conspiracy theorists: Worse yet, maybe he?s tanking the stock intentionally to buy AAPL at a huge discount. Does the SEC allow CEOs to write options on their stocks without reporting LOL...That would be like Mel Brook?s "The Producers" or Pete Rose gambling on his own games. Not so LOL for shareholders.)
Whatever the case, Steve needs to snap out of it. Like Bernanke, Jobs is way behind the curve as far as the economy is concerned. And from the looks of it he too will do too little too late.
Plus, it can be expanded to 40 GB with an 8 GB microSCHD chip.
Shortly, there won't be a need for hard disc players.
I am really happy with AT&T's service so far.
Am I disappointed a bit that this came out just after I could return my 8 gig iPhone and upgrade? Of course! BUT...
I still have my 60 gig previous generation iPod video for my "mega storage" needs and I can put a couple of movies on my iPhone at a time, plus several hours worth of music. It's not that big of a deal to swap playlists out when I sync.
My big pet peeve is the lack of Flash video support!
why would you get eight gigs. Everyone knows it is the best ipod
to watch video on. At least now it seems worth while, you can hold
40 hours of video which is over a dozen movies, and still have
room for music.

- Why did they 86 the camera? Why not have FM radio? I'd also like to be able to take pics or a quick video recording with camera or a voice message on the spot and e-mail it.
