Correction to Time Machine comment...

It doesn't work over *any* network. Only when wired directly to
your mac, which indeed, did suck.

So I will not be able to use the hard drive...
by ralfthedog January 15, 2008 12:07 PM PST
So I will not be able to use the hard drive I have connected to my Airport Extreme to back up my laptop? The last think I need to do is buy yet another router. I hate having to connect to an external hard drive to backup.

I was hoping that Apple would fix this.

I know that we have workarounds. They are just something of a pain.

I cannot understand this either. Surely the new features could be provided in a firmware update for free?

Apple iTracks
by sanenazok January 15, 2008 9:42 AM PST
Can't wait for Apple to start the iTracking program for my iMac that iIntegrates with iTunes and iLife. It's such a relief that Apple will be able to iTrack me as long as I have a cell signal, and it's not even GPS (which could be turned off).

Not tracking....
by mcharge January 15, 2008 9:47 AM PST
Apple is not tracking you, and you dont think people cant already do that?

How do we know he's not a computer? Things like that add depth and let us know he isn't, though if the computer was smart enough it would say something like to that to get this exact reaction, wouldn't it????

Apple TV Take 2
by sanenazok January 15, 2008 9:59 AM PST
Geez the only way Apple TV would ever be useful is if it had an actual TV TUNER. That's the announcement I was hoping for...Oh well gotta stick with MCE.

Each have a better auto updating blog.

I'm out - thought I'd get CNET's usually anti-apple slant, but this is unbearable.
Nice Try, but This Coverage is Lame....
by aaydogan January 15, 2008 10:03 AM PST
Some of the worst writing I've read. How aout using someone
who can actually write coherent sentences instead of some
gadget geek? While I appreciate cNet's attempt to cover this live
the standards of journalism continue to decline with each day's
coverage.

So Go Somewhere Else Then
by mattgoff January 15, 2008 10:11 AM PST
So why are you wasting your time here and taking even more time to post non-constructive criticism? Why not go somewhere else and spare us your negativity?
Where is your coverage?
by faust January 15, 2008 10:12 AM PST
If you can do better than don;t let any of us stop you.
whatever
by sanenazok January 15, 2008 10:19 AM PST
Hey I like this, it's not perfect (like writing that no TV is required for AppleTV- ***) but lay off the crapping. Nobody forces you to read this.
APPLE COPIES VUDU??!
by pibble08 January 15, 2008 10:05 AM PST
The VUDU box movie download device has been around since September. Does almost the same thing as this new version of Apple TV. Awesome remote/interface and great picture quality, including HD movies. They will not be able to compete with Apple, hopefully they'll get bought out. check it out at vudu.com

Never heard if them which is problem for a lot of products.

Now as Hedley Lamarr said in Blazing Saddles " Go do that VUDU
that you do so well!"

15 sites that went kaput in 2009

Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About Apple

At the start of the 21st century, there's no tech outfit more influential than Apple. CNET News' Erica Ogg and other reporters will attempt to make sense of the rumors, hype, products, and people that will shape the future of the company. But Apple's not the only game in town, as the established cell phone companies and others strike back against the iPhone. E-mail Erica at erica.ogg@cnet.com.
