Comments on: Apple to offer $100 store credit to iPhone customers

The credit is a quick response to early adopters frustrated by dramatic iPhone price cuts announced just a day earlier.

Apple screws customers twice!
by Magicland September 6, 2007 5:04 PM PDT
First, those iDiots who stood on line for a widely available item got the privilege of paying too much for the iPhone (waiting in line was just a bonus), now they get it from behind again with a $100 apple store credit. What in the apple store sells for under $100? Okay, they can get a lame iPod shuffle, but then they've already got an mp3 player in their phone. Anything else, and they're handing EVEN MORE MONEY right to Steve Moneybags. You've been iPhowned, iDiots!

Tech adopters... figure it out!
by Ravenous0506 September 6, 2007 7:38 PM PDT
Why wouldn't you figure that the prices would drop? Why do you think you deserve anything? Be grateful that you get this $100 gift card, that is being overly generous. Early technology adopters usually get the raw deal one way or the other (but anybody who is familiar with tech knows this). Prices are ridiculous and software is buggy. That is to be expected. Prices will decrease. That is how it has always been and I imagine that is how it will always be. You can pay $800 for the cutting edge computer processor or wait 6 months and get it for half the price. I think most of those who are bitter are upset that their high tech status symbol is now openly available to those with lesser means, or maybe you just feel stupid for buying something that was so exorbitantly overpriced anyway or both. <end rant>

They're pissed cause they're still paying off their phones. lol That's why noone should buy a peice of tech on credit cause by the time you finish paying it off that laptop(or phone in this case) is worthless.
Absolutely ridiculous.
by TheyCallMeGeorge September 6, 2007 8:27 PM PDT
This is unbelievable. Why people are all whiny about this is beyond me, and the fact that Apple is actually caving in to them is insanity. If I go into a store and buy a $4000 TV, that's the price that I agreed to pay for it. I was satisfied with the price, and I will walk away a happy customer because of it. The store didn't force me to pay $4000 for the TV. I could have waited. I could have purchased something different. But I agreed to the price.

If the store drops the price of the TV to $3000 next week, who cares??? Is it the store's fault for charging me $4000? Absolutely not! It's my fault for not waiting. The store doesn't owe me a thing. And I have no right to be upset at them for not letting me alter a physical transaction after it has taken place.

This is one of the most illogical moves that Apple has ever made as a company. I'm very disappointed in them.

WAKE UP!
by GFGLLC September 6, 2007 8:37 PM PDT
Why do people continue to camp out for new products and complain about the same stuff. The first release ALWAYS has glitches and the price ALWAYS comes down. Stop catering to these advertisng ploys and things will change. I am a tech addict but I have never given up a day or even half day of my life waiting to purchase a product. You wanted the privilege of saying you were the first to have the iphone, well that's the cost of privilege: $200

Hey I did not wait in line and never buy first gen products. I thought this phone was cool and I needed a new ipod so I said well I'll get it...somehow I still feel I got shafted. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

I bought my laptop from dell for $1000 a week later it was $800. Sure I called Dell cause I wanted to atleast try to get the difference but they said no... Well I tried I was a bit pissed but that's just the nature of the beast to quote someone's earlier post.

What?

Why in hell do you bring the Zune into this? How the hell do you know he's got a Zune? He might have a Creative mp3 or some other player. Seems to me he pushed the right button. He hit the nail on the head and you guys feel the only way to defend yourselves is by insulting the guy and making assumptions about him.
It's true. iPhone owners did get screwed but they're at fault. If you rush out to get something without thinking about the fact that you're getting into, say a 2 year contract with a company not known for the best and least expensive service, then you pay the price of you're ignorance.
You get what you pay for and sometimes you pay too much for what you get.
My 2cents take it or leave it. personnaly I'm laughing my ass off cause I get my phones free. call me cheap but atleast if I loose/break it I'm not out $700.

That's what they did, the I have to have it crowd got burned?? well deserved they had it comming. First AT&T service sucks plus a long contract a new phone at a high price. a product that nobody had tested, sounds like trouble and expensive.

Don't cry you got the hype, and also high on the I got it the first day thing. It is called OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, you'll soon move on to another target, until your credit cards reach the top.

2 MONTHS PEOPLE!!!!
by kojacked September 7, 2007 1:06 AM PDT
- "It's technology, get over it."
- "Every company drops prices."
- "Why isn't Microsoft giving out credits to their Zune customers?"

What the hell is wrong with everyone here? NO COMPANY ON THIS PLANT drops a price on a bleeding edge product 2 MONTHS after it's introduction. They only do so when:

1. They have a new model that REPLACES the old one (and no the iTouch does not REPLACE the iPhone -- there's no phone in the iTouch stupid.)
2. A competitor comes out with a better product for the same or less price. Hmmm... I'd love to believe this is true here but it's not.
3. They aren't moving enough product (IOW they screwed up on the pricing.) Ding! Ding! Ding!

Jobs and crew flat out screwed up on the pricing of the iPhone. Unlike Sony and the P$3 they were making a huge profit on each model so it was any easy call to make the price dump.

They just put themselves at odds with their fanbois so just pat them on the head an take more of their money since you can't get much from the Apple store for under $100. If they really meant they were sorry they would have let them apply the credit to the iTunes store. Since they've got the fanbois locked in on iTunes they know they are gonna get that money anyway so why not force the fanbois to drop a few more bucks on Apple (or never use the credit but still get the trust back for nothing). Jobs is quite the snake oil salesman! Absolute genious in taking advantage of his best customers and bilking them for more money! And I though Microsoft was evil!

Oh and how long has the Zune been out???? It's about damn time they drop the price on that turd.

Please people just listen to yourselves...

Thanks Apple
by Nodack September 7, 2007 1:24 AM PDT
Thank you Apple. You didn't have to do that. I knew the risks
going in and the iPhone is worth every penny of the $599 I paid
for it. Nice gesture even if few will appreciate it.

Those complaining about the phone services need to get a clue.
The coverage in my area is good so no complaint of dropped
calls.

I don't worry about SMS messages because I set up a plan ahead
of time. I'm pretty sure everybody gets the same options as I do.
I chose the plan where you get 300 SMS messages a month
without being charged any extra. I send about 20 tops. All calls
in the US are free to and from as long as I don't go over my
minutes. Web surfing is included and I can surf 24 hours a day 7
days a week if I want for no extra charge. I had AT&T before I
purchased the iPhone so adding all of that costs me $25 more a
month.

I know from years of experience that if you plan on calling
internationally often at all that you had better have an
International calling plan in place before calling. You must set
that up in advance or you will pay through the nose. It will
probably be a small monthly charge and then charge by the
minute at a much smaller per minute charge than if you didn't
have the plan. This has nothing to do with the iPhone and ALL
phone companies have similar plans, but if you don't set it up
you will get screwed. Don't blame Apple.

I'm going to pay $11 for it. And 6 months from now, when it's at the cheap seats for $2, I'm going to call Universal Studios and demand that they give me $9 back.

"TheyCallMeGeorge"

Stupid is as stupid does.

"I'm going to pay $11 for it. And 6 months from now, when it's at the cheap seats for $2, I'm going to call Universal Studios and demand that they give me $9 back."

This is not the same comparison. $11 is much more disposable than $600. 2 Months is a lot less time than 6 months. Your comparison does not scale and if flawed.

Let see... There's new, fancy quad-ply toilet paper that came out 4 months ago. It costs about the same as any other toilet paper out there. When can I expect a price drop? Oh! I get it! toilet paper and the iPhone are not the same and I can't expect their prices to trend the same! Duh...

That has me thinking.... Hmmm... I wonder how many Apple fanbois it takes to wipe Steve Job's ass for him? :)
Thank you Steve Jobs

Apple thank you so much for the technology busniess lesson WOW! So now I can expect that every product that is not selling for you you will cut the price...maybe the iphone will be 125.00 by X-mas...I'm going to wait. Loyal Mac users! get $500 back! dont renew .mac
by chongkwang September 8, 2007 9:55 PM PDT
Seems like its only the loyal classic Mac users that are upset
about being the target of sleezy price gouging. The Nuevo PC
using ipod owners are used to lowclass marketing scams. I am
going to get my full iphone price returned to my pocket by not
renewing my over-priced .mac account. And with the $100
severance credit, buying a non-apple product.

The unconditional love I had for apple is gone, I feel my loyalty
was inappropriately used and the severence pay of $100 store
credit for my 20 years of apple promoting is just another
marketing trick to hook another sale out of me. They appear to
have joined the ranks of Motorola and the mainstream corporate
shark mentality killing off the trustworthy company that made
Apple special and high quality. Now it is just another
untrustworthy computer store out to trick its customers into
spending more money instead of letting the quality product sell
itself without the games.

Apple Classic vs. the tricks of M.S. Apple
1998 imac $1299........7/07 iphone $599
2007 imac $1199........9/07 iphone $399

We need to open 2 new companies: Apple classic (see left
column above) for Mac-users who want to continue to pay a
premium for a consistent, quality product and customer
treatment. and M.S. Apple for the PC ipod users who have
adapted to, and sheepishly accepted the deceptive bait and
switch tactics of mainstream low quality tech companies.

By premeditating the blatant misuse of customer loyalty, it looks
like apple is choosing to follow the latter path. Break-ups are
hard to do, but Im finding it easier everyday to not tell a PC user
at the airport how to reduce his suffering by getting a Mac.

I agree
by lanceuppercut123 September 9, 2007 6:03 AM PDT
I am new to Apple having owned a few ipods. I was so excited Sept 5th that I marked it on my calender...I was thinking I have to check out CNET at 10:30am to find out what Apple has I bet It's new ipods and I bet the iphone will get new features I'm so excited. Boy was I wrong. I was shocked. Apple lowered the price on the iphone so soon. So I too was happy with Apple up until that moment I was so close to buying a MacBook...well not anymore Steve Jobs left a bad taste in my mouth. I will not buy Apple products anymore, and I will not renew my .mac account. I hope to trade my apple refund with a coworker who will buy something at the Apple store...that's it I will no longer shop at Apple. Not to be dramatic but it is just a choice...thank you Mr. Jobs for saving me hundreds of dollars in future over priced products.
So tell me this
by lanceuppercut123 September 9, 2007 6:22 AM PDT
So then why do stores have a price guarantee. If this were true about agreeing to pay for something at a set price and then having it come down why do stores do this? Are you saying their is no need for them to do this? I don't understand. If I pay for 4000.00 for a TV and then see it advertised somewhere else for cheaper you bet I am going to go and try and get the store I brought it from to match the price...is this not the same thing?

First time Apple customer/Last time Apple customer
by Applecustomernomore September 9, 2007 7:35 AM PDT
I will never purchase another Apple product. Steve Jobs with his smug self can thank himself for the large loss of his loyal customer base. AT&T is getting screwed as well. Customers can buy the ipod touch and get all the convience of the iphone (Safari browsing/Youtube) without the cell agreement from AT&T. What were they thinking?

Apple Products are over priced!
by QuietStormX September 9, 2007 4:48 PM PDT
What is Apple? They over price and hype stuff it's crazy too me. Apple should refund the owners the credit in CASH! That's how they keep Apple Breathing and in Business. I never get worked-up like so many uninformed people. The iPhone should not have been bought until two or three versions. The next version will have more memory and removable battery you can buy at a reasonable price. I don't feel for these people who run to buy Apple products....
