Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
At the start of the 21st century, there's no tech outfit more influential than Apple. CNET News' Erica Ogg and other reporters will attempt to make sense of the rumors, hype, products, and people that will shape the future of the company. But Apple's not the only game in town, as the established cell phone companies and others strike back against the iPhone. E-mail Erica at erica.ogg@cnet.com.

retailer has STOPPED selling 30gb ipods. i was also chatting with
an advisor at apple hq in ireland earlier today he shall remain
nameless but he told me to wait until tommorow.
i am predicting a 3.5" touchscreen video ipod 120gb with wifi.
a slightly larger screen ipod nano with higher capacity memory
and an ipod shuffle with higher memory and at the same price.
am i right who knows we shall have to wait and see.
still unsure wether they will release new ones tommorow. think
about it, there has been a major release regarding ipods in
september for at least 2 years running. also has anyone even
seen the invites to this event "The beat goes on" with a picture
of cover flow.
ah well i suggest watching tommorow. i know i will
Maybe they'll even announce a new shift key for you!
Maybe you should change your listening habbits or stop complaining....
I think it’s a good compromise. You just gotta figure out if you value more Hard drive space or the cool form factor of the iPod Touch :p
Love the products, hate the business partners.

If you don't like his pop stuff check out the John Mayer Trio.
He is just coasting with the pop stuff.
Thanks.
I doubt they could have made the form factor more appealing considering the 2" widescreen.
(I guess the could have put the click wheel to the right of the screen but it would look asymmetrical)
I'm in awe, not at when Apple have accomplished here, but that the average price for the clumsy Origami windows device was about $1,000.
I wonder if this will hurt Apple's relationship with AT&T. The iPod Touch offers most of the iPhone features, but AT&T doesn't make a dime from it.
doug
- The Shuffle is the same
- The iPod Nano is butt ugly and would be really crappy to watch video on considering the screen size
- The "Classic" is the same
- The "Touch" is only 16GB... what a joke. I would have easily sacrificed sacred "thinnness" for decent capacity. Heck, if I'm paying that much.
The fact they kept the "Classic" iPod around shows; if not guilt; that they realise that the capacity in their highest end device isn't up to spec.
What is with my beloved Apple this year? iLife/iMovie 2008 was a disaster, Safari 3 is full of bugs, the new iPods suck... I really hope Leopard is good. Otherwise I'll continue being a Mac fanboy but just try to forget 2007.
That's not to say Mac Fanboys can't criticize Apple, we do. Because we expect more from them than PC users do on Windows.
Are you saying you don't like a $200 price reduction?? These knee-jerk responses are sooo predictable and tired.
True.

Same was said about the video iPod screen. Then people actually used it. Opinions vary. Butt ugly? It's a screen with a control wheel below it. Maybe you feel all iPods are butt ugly.
- The "Classic" is the same
Nope. Over twice the storage for the same price.
- The "Touch" is only 16GB... what a joke. I would have easily sacrificed sacred "thinnness" for decent capacity. Heck, if I'm paying that much.
The iPod touch is an internet enabled PDA that also happens to be an iPod. Sounds like you would prefer an 80GB/160GB iPod classic. Or maybe a 30GB Zune. Microsoft just dropped the price.
We will see :p
I can't help but see as well, the price for the 16GB iPod "Touch" is the same as the 8GB iPhone. It makes you wonder as well if they're really just using the "Touch" as a stepping stone to convince people to move over to their phone, and with it their data plans with AT&T.
seems to have promise...if it would gain more storage! I still
think the iPods are too expensive. One thing I liked was the
iPhone getting the ability to download songs without having my
laptop. Another was iTone...it will be a feature I will use
occasionally. The price cut on the iPhone should help sell a lot
more iPhones. Apple's ability to move quickly with software and
product development often leaves people feeling like "Man..I
should have waited!" but I feel like thats the price we pay for an
innovative American company....but, you could always get a
zune...M$ cut $50 off it's price today.
Very nice new prices.
I really look forward to the iPod Touch and new iPod nanos.
And if we are talking about songs, I much preferred hearing KT Tunstall's first song.
Cheers!
- Price adjust on iPhone?

- I am calling my AT&T store to get price adjust on my $599 version. I think they have a 30 day price protection policy
