Here's wishing a speedy and full recovery for the victim of this criminal. In addition, let's hope they catch this bum and throw the book at him. I'm sure that Apple will provide the authorities with their complete cooperation and assistance in solving this crime.

I'm sure they'll be just as detailed in their description of the robber as they were in Steve Job's reason for medical leave.

Apple should have security cams all over the place in that store. DC has a high crime rate, especially violent crime. The girl is lucky to be alive. I hope she gets well and helps catch and prosecute this criminal. Now if good citizens were lawfully allowed to carry a concealed weapon, like a handgun, criminals would definitely think twice about robbing someone.

An investigation reports that the customer didn't even use vista. The customer used linux and just liked to complain about vista.

This is nothing new...Shops like this near a Metro are open season for DC thugs to do their smash and grab routines and then blend in with the train crowd. What's new is the gun involvement...Pretty scary!

The Arlington Police have released video footage of the crime:

This is a good tech story as technology can be used to lessen the chance of this happening again. For example, the article states, "The victim was shot by a man who rang a doorbell at a back service entrance of the store." A camera should be placed in such a manner as to show Apple employees who is waiting at the back entrance of the store. By viewing the live video a store associate can decide whether to open the door or not.

I wish the victim a speedy recovery.

I had just found that too and added it to the story. Thanks.

About the rear cam: very true. Most stores with valuable merchandise have this or a peephole or something to give the person inside the advantage. I would assume this store did too, and it was either not working or she didn't check it? Otherwise, she may have a valid lawsuit...

Maybe this is related, I went today to Apple's store at Tysons (VA) and was one armed security guy inside the store. As far as I remember, I never saw an armed security guard on the store. Can be due to 3GS sale, but I guess was because the Clarendon incident. By the way , I bought my 13" MAC BOOK PRO, on that store last week.

I don't see any sidearms on them, but the Fashion Valley Apple Store in San Diego has uniformed guards A few months ago they had some grab and dash incidents, other stores in the mall as well. The back door to the place is pretty close to the mall security office and is also on a busy driveway.

Probably the perp was pissed off that you only get 2GB RAM and a lack of ports and Blu-ray for well over $1000. And the built-in "apps" are limited usefulness trial-version quality.
And then he found out Jobs also pads his wallet by charging for mere service-packs every few months.
Also , Apple`s latest security roll-up was over 600 megabytes ! Mostly to fix holes in UNIX.
Then BAM...he capped the Biotch !

She should be grateful for her life now.

But come on...shooting somebody in the Apple Store.
The Apple Store is fraught with great employees with great personalities.

God Bless her, her family and her coworkers.

Virginia is an open carry state - too bad the employee or other employees were not carrying. This is a call for all Virginians to arm themselves.

For those of you that are unaware, Clarendon is not in DC (but is close), it is in Virginia. Virginia does allow concealed carry - and I hope more citizens obtain a CCW and actively carry. For those that do not want the hassle of getting a CCW - may I suggest open carry.

Wow, this is something I've always wanted to do ... but I'd aim at Steve Jobs, for all that buggy chit that Apple has sold for the last 20 years - iPuds with batteries that DIE 1 month after the warranty expires, PowerMacs that go flaky 1 month after the warranty runs out, G3 and G4 iBooks with self-destructing Logic Boards, G4 PowerBooks with Self-Destructing LCD Displays, MacBooks with the same problems as the G3 iBooks and PowerBooks, G5 iMacs with Power Supplies that burn up ..... and on and on and on ...

I feel sorry for the guy who shot the AppleTard in the store .... He Probably bought a piece of CHIT Mac.

In short, a dumb mofo who didn't know that all Apple Stores don't have POS systems (aka a cash register). It's either credit or debit cards only for anyone shopping at a "brick and mortar" Apple Store. It must have been an odd scene for the thief/shooter:

Thief/Shooter: GIVE ME THE F**KING MONEY!!!
Apple Genus: Huh?! What money?!

Forgive me for my "dark humor" and I hope the genius that got shot makes a quick recovery.

I know what you mean. When I purchased mu MacBook Pro two years ago at th Apple Sore in Columbia MD, I paid cash, and I thought the saleman's head was going to explode. I pulled out an envelope from my bank and started counting out 100's and 20's and the look he gave me was like I had set a bag of rattesnakes on the counter. He actually had to get the store manager because he didn't know how to deal with a cash transaction. I thought for a minute they were going to ask me to leave the store. It was very weird...

Whoa, that's hella worse than the umteen people who get shot at convenience stores every week. You just don't do these things to Mac people!

Apple should make it official policy to encourage it's employees to open carry in states where it is legal like VA. I mean, you never hear of a gun store in VA getting robbed at gunpoint, do you?

And that previous post that made the comment about VA. Gun laws being so lax, you obviouly haven't tried to purchase a handgun in VA recently, because Va has to follow all the same federal laws regarding handgun purchases as every other state. Same NICS background checks, same proof of ID and residency--handgun sales are tightly regulated on the FEDERAL level. Know your facts before you start spewing propaganda...

This thug probably gotgis gun on the street--illegally--from OTHER criminals.

Or maybe VA should adopt laws like DC and Chicago have, because we al know that those cities, which essentialy ban law abiding citizens from owning firearms, have N o guns in the hands of criminals...

Wake up...
