The victim, a 26-year-old woman, is in serious but stable condition with a wound to the shoulder. Some media outlets are reporting robbery as the motive, but police say it's too early to tell.
Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
About Apple
At the start of the 21st century, there's no tech outfit more influential than Apple. CNET News' Erica Ogg and other reporters will attempt to make sense of the rumors, hype, products, and people that will shape the future of the company. But Apple's not the only game in town, as the established cell phone companies and others strike back against the iPhone. E-mail Erica at erica.ogg@cnet.com.

"[Apple] would like to wish the victim a speedy recovery and would like anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward. Additionally, we'd like to thank all our other employees at the store for helping the customers out of the store and dealing well with the situation."
If they use those exact words, I demand a pay rise.
Sure there will be a press release, but nothing else is required.
The important part is not the shooting in itself but the following reaction which is triggered by it.
Call me crazy.
Had this been at a mom&pop grocery store, only the local news would've picked up this story. In the big scheme of national (or even international) news reporting, this newsworthiness of this unfortunate event occurring almost anyplace else would indeed have been judged as 'trivial' and basically ignored even if it made it onto the wire services...except for the fact that it happened at a Apple Store which suddenly brings unwarranted attention to news editors--especially tech-related souls--across the internet.
The fact that CNET chose to make a fuss over this shows just how much pull those five letters (A-P-P-L-E) has on its own newsdesk, even if the actual point of the story (violent crime) has little if anything to do with technology.
I was quite tempted to make a stupid comment about a liver transplant. While I do not have standards, that is even below my non standards. Now that I have not said it, no one else needs to as well.
I hope she gets well and does so fast.
PS. Apple has good security. It is just not that visible.
In all seriousness, a speedy and full recovery to the injured Apple employee, and a quick capture/prosecution to the gun toting thug.
Okay okay that was cold.
Anyways best wishes hopefully she makes a speedy recovery.
Honestly C|Net, most of us already know you are desperate for anything news related. But this article has put you even below tabloid fodder. We all know that any excuse you can use to put the word "Apple" in your headline will almost guarantee page-hits. What is really taking a hit is your image.
One word: Pathetic
In all seriousness I hope they catch the guy and the employee makes a speedy recovery and identifies him and gives more details on how to catch him.
How is the new Intel Processor going along?
I didnt know that cnet was a bloter.
If it is then you better get busy, there are people shoplifting at frys or Best Buy every day.
Best wishes to the store employee.
monkeyfun14 then posts: "I haven't trolled this post at all."
Q. monkey are you eligible to upgrade your 10 yrs old PC, you bought at a car boot sale, running Windows ME, to Windows 7?

Did I mention Macs at all in these posts did I bash any of them. Hell the MBP comment was a compliment.
Compared to your comments.
"...... prolly is a windows vista user"
"Q. monkey are you eligible to upgrade your 10 yrs old PC, you bought at a car boot sale, running Windows ME, to Windows 7?"
