All that tells me is that previous iPhone users were unsatisfied with their purchase. As if that is news though. Apple holds back features so their is a reason for their fanbase to buy up later.

So, what phone do you use today? WHatever phone it is, it tells me you were dissatisfied with your previous choice. If you get a new one soon, you must be dissatisfied with the one you are using now, right?

The logic cuts both ways, right?

What is the point of this? :)

"What is the point of this? :)" Near as I can tell none. Logic seems to be weak point for most of these Apple bashers.

Before the launch of the iPhone 3Gs (and drop of the original to $99), there were 2 iPhones in my family. now there are 4. One person upgraded to the new phone, giving the old to his wife. He wasn't dissatisfied, he just wanted to try the voice control because he has multiple sclerosis. So there are 2 new users out of the 2 new phones bought.

Why can't we just buy an unlocked iPhone?

Yes, I'm willing to spend hundreds more for it. Yes, I understand the whole carrier subsidy thing. Yes, I know there are supposed unlocking solutions out there (which freeze up my iPhone every time I try to use them).

I'm more than happy for Apple to make a profit off me, in fact even more than they make off ATT customers because i want and need more functionality. I really want to be able to use my iPhone in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, and all over Europe where I travel regularly for business. On ATT's best roaming plan I spend about $800/month when abroad even if I try to limit my use of data. Buying a prepaid SIM card in those countries would be so much easier and cheaper.

And if there was an unlocked version, all those potential new customers who are using "anyone but ATT" would no longer have an excuse to ignore this great phone.

I've heard Congress is debating this matter soon. I'll assume the cell phone carrier's lobbyists are busy making sure we consumers continue to be screwed.

Well, if you don't mind ordering from overseas then you can. The iPhone is unlocked in a number of countries and my current country, Belgium, is/was one of them. I add an element of doubt here because apparently it recently became legal to tie a GSM to provider so there is the possibility that the iPhone 3GS will be locked to Mobistar when it goes on sale this Friday. The iPhone 3G currently goes for EUR 525 for the 8GB version or EUR 615 for the 16GB. No idea yet what the price of the 3GS will be but I'm expecting the same price points.

"Why can't we just buy an unlocked iPhone?"

Because Apple and AT&T have a contract.

I read an article recently that the FCC is investigating these exlusive contracts
and determining whether they are beneficial to customers or not
So who knows it may end soon
here's the source -:

They have been investigating for a while, and I don't think they are beneficial. They should be required to offer a contract phone which can be locked, and a non-contract phone (no subsidy) which is unlocked. Right now, even the non-contract phones are locked, so you have to unlock them yourself.

@everyone who can't stand Crashpad,

Ignore this person... no one would pay any attention to him if no one replied... He can say whatever he wants. Like MSFT, they just spit stuff out of their mouth... and have to suck it back when the facts get out. Marketshare is clearly showing the iPhone rules the smartphone space. Imagine if they opened it to all U.S. carriers? Next subject...

@everyone who wants iPhone switching to Verizon,

as many have pointed out, when they go to 4G/LTE. I am sticking to T-Mobile, because it's priced the best where i live and have always had GREAT service. So, forget switching to Verizon... open it up to ALL carriers, and let them fight it out regarding data plans. Then we'll win... I could get a 25% discount on either AT&T or Verizon, but my T-Mobile plan is all I need. I don't believe in jail-breaking, but I have seen T-Mobile dudes using a $5 work around for data. Now that is a deal...

Bottom line: the iPhone has made all the other phones better... that alone should make everyone happier. Even you haters... be happy you will have a better phone now that Apple gave us a higher standard BOTH regarding phones AND the need for carriers to upgrade. Other countries use their phones as credit cards, i.d. passes, mini-TVs, internet, etc. Now we finally are trying to match them. We still have a ways to go. If Apple ever gets surpassed, fine... But all this progressed would have taken forever had it not been for the iPhone.

You're joking??? Right?? nobody can be this stupid!!!! LMFAO. Look at the numbers kid. Symbian is the dominant os choice at 47.9, with RIM following up at 19.4 and Win Mobile at 12.4. Oh Apple is 10.7.
Not so big are you Apple. Revisionist crack me up. You cant argue win but you do provide for some weak competition. Good luck at summer school.

God, one day with this damn thing and I have a LIST of problems to give you Apple Fanbois.

1 Multimedia messaging does not support sculpture, macrame, or interpretive dance.

2 Voice memo recordings totally don't sound like me. I don't sound like that, do I? Seriously?

3 Turned on adult content filter but everybody in my videos still has their clothes on.

4 Adding a task to calendar did not result in task getting done.

5 Clicked this blue "compass" icon but kept getting some stupid web browser.

6 Still no apps to cure the nagging feeling that I should've bought a Palm Pre.

7 The touchscreen is now on the back of the phone instead of the front.

8 Gone to the bathroom four times already today, and Remote Wipe hasn't worked once.

9 Spotlight search crashed with memory overload error trying to index my Harry Potter cosplay photo collection.

10 Tried out tethering, but I think I broke my finger smacking that phone around the pole.

11 Apple still hasn't fixed the no-hardware-keyboard bug.

12 "Cut" function does not apply to monthly AT&T bill.

Way to rip off 'Woot' content and not give credit. What, you thought no one knows how to use google?

I guess you weren't smart enough to come up with your list which explains why you can't operate the phone--assuming you actually bought one--which I doubt.

How appropriate! The last four posts are all from the peanut gallery. BTW, you have no fan base CrashPad63 and if you're feeling warm and fuzzy about it, then that just means you need a new change of diapers. Oh, and does it matter if it was activated or not?? Once the phone is sold (and they were SOLD), Apple made their money. It doesn't matter, in the end, when or how it was activated. DOLTS!!

Does anyone know where I can get information about actual sales numbers in each county?
EG. What's the sales breakdown of those 8 countries?
What's the sales numbers at now a month and a half later?
any info will help
thanks guys.
