I'm not going to waste any more time today waiting for Apple to get their act together on this.
I'll try again tomorrow.
Copy and paste won't change my life, so I can wait.
In fact, most of the updates are a bit underwhelming.

just think, when I'm done, if i don't have a brick, I get to start all over again with my fiancé's iphone, and then my mother in laws!! I almost hope it does brick, lol. Don't tell my fiance though, she's 7 months pregnant and I'm not ruling out homicide.

Download took about 4 minutes and then for the last hour I've been receiving the error at activation stage. Has just started installing finally, so hoping it will go smoothly. I'm in Australia - not sure why it started working but just keep on keeping on and I'm sure it'll happen eventually!

Anyone else getting this error http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1847/picture3ndf.png
This happens after I connect my iPhone to iTunes after the update is complete.

Big problems. Downloaded 3.0 without a problem to my WinXP virtual machine running Fusion 2.0 on a Macbook Pro. The upgrade procedure failed. Multiple retries Finally plugged iphone into Mac Mini and successfully performed the upgrade. Now trying to restore from WinXP but Itunes in the VM doesn't see the iphone at all.

It was similar to me at work here except it was Parallels with XP running. When it failed I quit all that other stuff and it still refused, then I realized I wasn't logged in. But yeah the virtual software seems to interfere because it keeps wanting to take control of the device.

I'm not gonna lie, been reading all these horror stories I kinda wish I could clip this install off and wait for some of the kinks to get worked out. I almost can't wait to see which error i'll get. Did I say wait? I'm an American for Christ sakes, I don't wait for nada ;)

it is now 3:19 Central, and i still cannot update. I have been trying for the past 2 HOURS! It downloaded in about 13 minutes, but like many others my phone couldn't contact the server. This is very disappointing, but somewhat expected, frustrating none the less.

If you think the problems are scattered, try checking the comments at Gizmodo. As for myself, I could not use my phone for almost an hour because of a mysterious error (-4) at the iTunes store.

logged in fine after a couple of attempts at 1:20 CST. Download was slow, but Installed and everything was fine except upgrade removed all my content and I had to resync ipod touch to get my music and podcasts back.

Has anyone with a 2G phone had success with the upgrade? I can't attempt until I get home from work and want to make sure others with the same iPhone were able to upgrade before I attempt.

After the upgrade I kept getting a timeout connecting to the store when I clicked on my iphone device in itunes. It also showed that the phone was in emergency service only. After 30 minutes of trying to connect, I closed iTunes and disconnected my iPhone from the USB cable. It immedately showed activated and all was back to normal. I re-opened itunes and connected the iphone and completed a sync.

patience is a virtue. in general with any kind of software update, I find it beneficial to not be standing at the flood gates when they open.

I tried to update - got error "Activation server unavailable", then thought to RESTORE iPhone to clean state and try clean firmware update, but after RESTORING (from iPhone general settings), my iPhone tries to start - shows Apple logo and does not go any futher...What a bunch of retards at Apple - they had 2 years to perfect this thing and still same old problems everytime...
