Ive had my 3.0 since 1250pm. just FYI if you want to play with the new OS dont sync till you want a break.it took 25mins to backup phone when I synced!!aside from that its great.ENJOY

I was able to download the upgrade. It failed and my phone is now a brick. Only shows a connect to iTunes image. Won't reset, won't do a damn thing. Had to make a future appointment with Apple. My only phone!!!

Should have stuck with Nokia. Apple has a case of craniumretumitis.

My iPhone has ~14GB worth of media on it (and still does) that the iPod application does not recognize.

Worked perfectly fine for my 1st gen iPhone. Did the update around 10 AM Pacific.

For what it's worth, the available storage space on my iPhone was pretty low (200 mb or so) so I cleaned off some music etc. first, before doing the update, just to make sure the system didn't have any "out of space" sort of problems. Before I did the update, I had about 650 MB free space. From what I can see, I now have about 600 MB free so the update did take a little more space than the previous OS, as one might expect.

The same thing happened to me last year and It drove me nuts. I remember reading that If you keep clicking on "Device" it basically holds you place in line. Dunno if that's true or not, but eventually I was able to receive the update. It's just because so many people are trying to download the update, the servers are getting backed up which is why I've decided to wait a couple of days before getting the upgrade.

Also before my wifi signal was always shown as full, now upgraded it is one or two out of three bars sometmes, grr

OK, I am a big fan of the iPhone and Apple products but this is ridiculous. My wife's 1st Gen iPhone had the error message, could not be updated. It finally told me that it would have to be restored before it could be updated. Finally did it after about 2 hours. Great! Now it was my turn. I first sync'd and backed up my 3G after going through what happened with the wife's phone. Guess what, same damn thing. Same error message, now I have to factory restore it and hope it actually works. It'll probably take more than my wife's because I have more apps and content.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR IPHONE BEFORE YOU INSTALL 3.0!

I, too, am experiencing the message that the server is temporarily not working. I did not experience this with the 2.0 upgrade, but always wondered how any company would prepare for days like this....... apparently not much...hahaha. I'm not gonna bag on apple for having some issues when hundreds of thousands of downloads are occuring at the same time. It's bound to happen.

I had no problems with the download and install, started at 11:13 Pacific Time, but after the install, half of my apps were deleted, all of my apps had been wiped from my itunes, my calendars weren't on my iphone anymore (I sync from google calendars), and both the itunes and app store apps/buttons were missing from my iphone. I thought this was really weird because I had backed everything up right before the install, to be safe.
I tried ejecting and replugging the phone in a few times, nothing happened. So I plugged it into a different computer it's also synced to, and got the missing apps back using that. As for the Calendars issue, I deleted the account and the reactivated it and that seemed to work, for whatever reason after I did that the itunes and app store showed back up.

You just have to be patient, unfortunately. There are tons of people right now trying to get the upgrade, so the servers are backed up which is the reason for the message "Server is temporaily unavailable." You would think Apple would have worked this out considering that the same thing had happened with last years Firmware upgrade. Hang in there folks!

Pretty much all of my apps are useless now and do not appear to be compatible with OS 3.0. Yay.

I've been getting the "Server Timed Out" message every time I try to update. Should expect it with fifteen million people downloading today, I guess.

I downloaded it at about 1:10pm NY time and I had no problems, unlike last year.

I've got a UK iphone 3g on o2 - not unlocked or anything. Download in a few minutes no problem BUT ...

I got an error 'unknown error during update' - how helpful is that?

Anyway I was left with a brick with an apple logo on the screen - it's taken over 2 hours to get it back to life.

I had to resore to factory condition then restore (which also crashed). Most things are now working again but all the emails I've deleted over the last week are back in my inbox. Overall I wish I had waited for the bugs to be sorted.

Wow! This happens every year. Why can't people wait a couple days to upgrade. Everyone has to try to be first. This is just common sense.
