LAME! 11 Million people who don't know how to use computers got it bundled with an update to their ipod software. Otherwise it would be considerable less..

How man people downloaded it from Download.com or statically from Apple without having it automatically delievered to them.. Thats the number I want to see.

how many people download any software this way once it's installed?

how many people actively seek out the newest version of Firefox instead of simply letting Firefox tell you it's available?

this is how all modern software updates are delivered to consumers.

ya man I agree with you. Last time I was about to update iTunes in my dad's laptop, safari was selected by default to automatically download.

Then un-check the box. Is it so hard to do or does it just give you a reason and purpose to spread BS!

Safari 4 doesn't appear in the Apple Software Update on either of my two Windows machines; both have Safari 3 installed and it's not "ignored". It did appear in Software Update on my two Macs; I installed it on both and am very happy with the updated version's performance.

it ain't secure. As usual, it will be first and easiest browser to be exploited next year in the hacking contest.

"This is a recording" should be at the beginning of your posts because you only have one thing to say in every post!

Apparently you have twice.

Actually, security is just fine. Apple updates it as needed. And we have yet to be taken over by a single virus. Not even Linux can claim that.

And Apple doesn't need to pay for it.
Er, I mean "donate" to charity...
LOLZ on Uncle Fester again.

Wow, I stand corrected!! You actually said something different this time and you even used the word "CrApple" in your post. Very creative and original! (insert sarcasm).

Shellcodes_coder is obviously a script kiddie. C|Net needs to block it.

Most browsers are so fast on my computers that I don't notice a difference. Except IE7 and IE8, they tend to chug over things for some reason, I think it's because they like to have most elements of a page downloaded before they bother to render it, which makes IE too annoying to use regularly, on anybody's computer.

About Safari specifically- it's better than IE, but then Opera Firefox and SeaMonkey are as well and I prefer them over Safari, especially the way Apple tends to to push there stuff on you like Spyware or AOL crap: anyone remember the damn "update" popupswe were assaulted with constantly a while ago if you had something like itunes or Quicktime. The only way to be sure to get rid of that was to either install the damn things it suggested or get rid of the ones you already had. I chose the latter course.

Obviously you don't know what you're talking about. Apple doesn't push anything on anyone. Quicktime has to be updated for security reasons. So, you would rather risk attacks than be safe? And the alternative is the clearly inferior WMV?

Can't say that I have ever used Safari, but I am a big fan of chrome and firefox. I recently stopped using chrome, just too many sites that it wouldn't open.

Uninstall Chrome and then install Safari 4.0. Reset Safari and log out and back in (better yet, restart). You'll find that Safari is indeed very, very fast. Especially when running JavaScript.

I downloaded it so I am among the 10 million. I checked it out but I still prefer Firefox. Safari crashed a few times on me but Firefox still works great.

Trying out Safari 4 for the heck of it on Windows 7. Annoyed that I am stuck with either using google or yahoo for my default search engine. Maybe I want to use Bing!

At least IE8 allows you to select google as your default search engine and Chrome lets you select Bing! Shame on Apple. Now only if I could get Chrome to work on every website it might be worthwhile to use day to day.

And I wonder if they can track the number of us the tried Safari 4, and went back to Safari 3.

Moving the refresh button, removing the progress bar, and the damned Google suggestions every time I as much as enter a letter in the search window were all deal breakers for me. Safari 4 sucks like a tornado. The alleged speed of Safari 4 is not noticeable on the PPC Macs.

Let me start off by saying I've never used Chrome and 90% of the time I use a Mac.
Safari 4 for Mac in my opinion is an excellent browser, uncluttered, very stable, very fast and intuitive, adds Coverflow and Top Sites capabilities to it's wonderful handling of Bookmarks and History.A big step up from Safari 3.x.x.
Compared to Firefox's "Fun for a while" customisation options and general lack of cohesion(I'd still keep it as my second browser),Safari 4 is a dream. Why?

Two things (mainly).

One-I have not come across anything in any other browser that comes close to Safaris' killer feature.
The Activity Window and its' ability to integrate with download accelerators such as iGetter and Speed Download. This window allows you to see just about every file that is in your browsers, cache.
This is especially useful when you want to down load videos off the net FAST,especially those videos that the sites' operators don't want you to have a copy of.

Two-This is all well and good, but compared to its potential in terms of speed,Safari 4 on its own doesn't really squash the opposition (apparently).Answer?
Safari 4 + " Webkit nightly build" = Use those Opera Exploring Chrome vulpes to clean your floors.
While to surf the net, install Safari 4.Then go to webkit.org and download the latest "Nightly Build" (yes I know Safari 4 is built around the Webkit engine,Webkit just do the speed part better).

Now with safari 4 closed, install and launch Webkit Nightly Build. It's easy to tell the difference between the two applications' icons-Safari has a silver compass ring, while Webkit has a gold one.
Now control/right click on the Webkit icon in the dock and click on "Keep in Dock".
Now just click the compass with the gold ring in the dock whenever you want to go surfing.

Safari on steroids.Voila.
