"I suspect that it will lead to a lot of impulse buying."

Apple's gameplan has been based on this lately.

To all the Windoz and Apple defenders, I'm 50 and I'm a PC. I'd NEVER own a Mac of any kind. But I'm damn happy to own my iPhone. It has never locked up once since purchased. Since I've repaired thousands of MS based devices I speak from experience, not miss placed loyalties. MS does NOT produce reliable products. They lockup, they run slow (especially after the constant patching required to keep them running at all). In a word MS is very good at marketing junk. Maybe they should switch to what they do best and leave the OS work to Apple and Linux distros.

That said, the Apple closed box is their biggest problem. If Steve would ever pull his head out and not try to control the world, Apple might get some market share. But alas I believe that event has been withheld for too long. Linux (especially Ubuntu) has now gotten to the point that it is a viable MAINSTREAM desktop OS. Sorry MS, but your day's controlling the desktop have probably seen their peak and will now fade. Apple won't get these desktops either, they will go to Linux. People don't like communism and they don't like the way Apple treats them. Where else would you go?

Someone wake me when the meaningful updates begin. Who cares about all these stupid app demos...I can see those online later. Keep the event to what we want to hear...what APPLE is doing!

so far I'm an unimpressed, underwhelmed, pissed off at apples update., unless there is a bunch of "one more thing" from this news conference, its a huge disappoiintment.

underwhelmed is summing me up too.... Unless once I start actually using this 'functionality' it reveals something that these demos could not - I don't see this update a revolutionary in any way. Perhaps to developers - but not users.

Hey at least you're getting more "new" "information" then we did with the Sprint/Palm Pre Webcast

scratch that last one

but look;

"11:18 a.m. PDT: Search is next, it's getting added to all main applications, including Mail. You can search text and headers in Mail as well as on the server. Calendar is now searchable, as well as your song library in the iPod."

Well I must admit that Apple is starting to break down some of the individual Sandbox issues that I have with the Phone (However I wonder if they are opening the door wide enough or too wide :-/ )

Flash is not Happening We already Know that Maybe after adobe plays with 3.0's SDK for a quater or two, but Adobe's stated already that there will be no iPhone Flash in 2010

11:17 a.m. PDT: Kent German: "Can't describe how needed the multimedia messaging funcitonality is. Though, I'm wondering if it's shameful that I'm getting excited about such a basic functionality. "

Yes since these features should be standard on any high end cell phone.

It is still style over full function. Apple is now bringing to the table standard features that other phoens have had for a while now. The press conference so far has been ho hum. They are clealy focusing on games and impulse buys via the App Store.

The style over substance issue still stands.

The phone is no longer impressive.
by Brunogirl March 17, 2009 11:31 AM PDT
How can it be less impressive now? I'm quite happy in general with these enhancements. Looking forward to more information bein gavailable over the next few months and think it is a good idea to allow the developers time to make apps with the new technology before end users use it - when we get it there will be a lot of things already available to take adventage of the software features.

Very nice.
by homercles82 March 17, 2009 11:34 AM PDT
The phone itself is not impressive anymore. It had a wow factor for me when it came out but was too expensive. Still is too expensive for me.

The app commercials show nothing outside of one trick ponies and the announcement today was fluff. They are playing catch up to other phones and OS's out there.

Take the voice recorder picture. It is a basic function that every phone should have but they have to make it look fancy as if to say it is different and that is why it took so long to get on the phone. It is a dressed up pig.

No mms for the original iphone because of a different radio. What kinda bull is this?
Are you telling me the radio is older then a cell phone from 6 plus years ago?
Seems to me they left our certain things for the original to make you upgrade.
Hard to upgrade when I have to wait until november for att to let me.
damn contracts.

Nothing major really in from this show. No flash, No video recorder. Most everything else you can get if you jailbreak it. Guess thats why it is a free upgrade.
I wonder if Flash is really in the works?

At least this OS "update" will be free to all users. Should be version 2.1 and not 3.0 though
