Reminds me of Futurama, with Amy's cell phone. So small, she can't use it, but it sits in a huge charging cradle on her desk.

Now they just need to come up with a bluetooth transmitter thats small enough for the new shuffle....with controls on the headphones themselves. I have a bluetooth transmitter that has a 3.5 jack connection......but it much bigger then the actual shuffle. I'm guess it won't work with the new device!!

Still a rip off. Until it has a screen it's useless to me. I have a Sandisk Sansa Clip and I love it. It's very small and light, but it has an FM radio, a screen (what a novel idea!) and is 8gb and I paid less for it than the price of a shuffle. Plus, the buttons on this new shuffle will be so small it will make it hard to control by feel alone, something which is important while working out.
Just so you know, I'm not an Apple basher. I have a 30gb iPod and a MacBook. I just think the shuffles pale in comparison to micro mp3 players made by other manufacturers.

4Gb and no screen. A 4 gb zen at walmart is $50. People must really love it because its from Apple,

And YOU hate it because it's from Apple.
You lose.

Ah, er--no thanks.

For nearly $30 less I could get a SanDisk SANSA Clip 4 GB that not only has a decent display, but longer battery life and the fact the Clip has been much lauded for its excellent sound quality.

I can wait! ...Needs a more extensive language selection. Like Pashto, Turkana, Inuit, Huao, ...Klingon?

It will just be a headphone connected to a battery. All the songs will be stored in a memory chip inside the headphone cable control pod...

Wait, they could do that now!

They went the wrong direction with this one. At least in my opinion. Does anyone else think it is too small> What's next, iPod Spec? It is going to be extremely easy to lose them. Also, who thought putting the controls on the headphones was a good idea? I mean you can't even use your own headphones now. It is also kind of complicated press this many times for this, hold this long for this...what was wrong with regular buttons? Also, even if they make a dongle to be compatible with your own headphones, who wants a dongle hanging off of something that is supposed to be small? I like the second generation designs the best.

Oooh...ahhh. I'm sorry: my Sony mp3 player will absolutely kill ANY apple product in terms of sound quality regardless of the earphones used, and I'm not limited by ITunes nor stuck in the insular world that Apple has created. But, Apple does design good looking products and sleek interfaces. Shame about the engineering and proprietary nature of their product lines.

Yeah, and Beta tapes rocked too McFly.
At this price/feature level, it's good enough.
Get a clue.
Guys like you keep running the likes of SONY into the ground.
Give it UP!

I would not consider buying the new Shuffle, as remarkable as it otherwise seems, since you are stuck with the Apple ear pods to operate the device. It is undoubtedly a matter of personal preference, but I find that style of earphone affirmatively uncomfortable and prefer the "bud" style. I also think the sound is better but that is also a personal judgment.

It's funny how Apple still tries to compete with the Sansa Clip and yet they still massively fail.

Sansa Clip>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ipod shuffle in every way.

I'm sorry -- but "VoiceOver"? Install special software... to use a feature in which you have to sit and listen to the names of playlists or songs to decide which one you want... just to make the novelty of having a ridiculously tiny MP3 player somewhat tolerable? What's wrong with good old-fashioned displays and scrolling. I guarantee you I will be able to find a playlist on my player way faster and easier than on one of these stupid things. And if you seriously want to fill 4 GB worth of songs only to shuffle them all, then you make no sense.

First no screen, now, no controls on the device?! besides the off, random, and play in order switches.

This doesn't even look like an ipod anymore. Bad move apple.
And the fact that the controls are on the specific model of ear buds. SUPER bad move apple.
What if the owner doesn't like the ear buds, which are uncomfortable, so now apple is making the owners buy the crappy ear buds.

I have the iPod Classic, which in my opinion, does everything that I need so it's perfect device. But this shuffle is the worst crap that I've ever seen. It went from bad (1G) to worse (2G) to the absolute worst iPod ever (3G).
