Several blogs picked up on a report by DigiTimes that cites a Chinese-language Commercial Times article saying Apple is allegedly prepping a new touch-screen Netbook for a release in Q3 of this year. And now Dow Jones News Services has further updates on

The concept of an Apple NetBook would be a perfect alternative for folks that do NOT want (in this device) a full featured mini-laptop; however, want : internet connectivity, email support, movie viewing when traveling, reading eBooks (instead of the Amazon product with B&W screen only), pdf document reading support, picture viewing, WiFi support, optional EVDO cell-system support, USB 2v connectivity, SD Card slot,... If the Battery life is GOOD, and the screen is bright... I'll be on line for this item ASAP. Well that's my wish list... JimW

Hey folks this looks like a very exciting product. If this is released with WiFi and EVDO connectivity, email and web support, Bluetooth and USB v2 support, and lets add 8GB SD card slot, and viewing capability to view most of the HD Video formats for movie viewing, eBook viewing software for all the eBook formats presently out there.. all day battery capacity like at least 10-12 hours of continuous usage, so that recharging can be done in the evenings, rather than needing mid-day access to power and the charger (or make battery user changeable with spare batteries). Photo-viewing for all common file formats; Business file reading including PDF file reading and work-processing files, Spread sheet XL file reading...

With this capability, sign me up, and I'll be on line waiting for delivery...
Lets see of they can keep this devise under $1000.

If it has limited computing power fine but, I'd rather not have the device so expensive and slow, in exchange for having too many capabilities... lets save this computing power for our laptops, and not make this device a lap-top replacement... JimW

I think one clear feature for an apple tablet will be found in garageband. In the most recent iLife package, garageband features learning to play your favorite songs using several onscreen instruments including piano and guitar. I think it would be foolish of apple not to create a play-along option using the touchscreen technology to play the virtual keyboard/guitar while listening to a selected song. Thats my prediction for this device.
