Based on Apple patents, MacBlogz post hypothesizes on (and sketches out) potential changes we might see in a new mouse, including a multitouch trackpad to replace the button.

Another piece of **** coming down the pipe to soak the AppleTards out of more money. The first one was crap, what makes anyone think this won't be anything different.

And then of course, Apple will release updates that will **** up it's operation 2 or 3 times.

I love my Macs, but Apple hasn't made a decent mouse other than it's very first Macintosh.
One thing Microsoft does is make good mice. Not all of them, but some of their mice are my favorites.
Logitech... not for me.
MacAlly used to make great mice. (in the OS 9 days)
Anything else is just mediocre junk to me thus far.

The biggest pain in the *** about the current mighty mouse, is the natural tendency to click the side buttons which cascade the widows. Though you can change this in preferences (I state this to avoid flaming), the button should be repositioned to avoid incidental contact on an input device that's considered to be ergomatic.

If you need to clean the ball, flip the mouse upside down and roll it around a bit.

I don't own a Mac, but if I did I think I'd still be using a Logitech mouse. Mighty Mouse had just had too many problems to make it work even experimenting with. That said, Apple have the potential to make a really unique device. With a Multitouch surface, an accelerometer and a body created using Apple's 'brick' technology, they could be onto a real winner. On the other hand, they could just produce another flawed, unergonomic, ordinary mouse.

Here's the thing. The Mighty Mouse remains one of the nicest mice I've used for the way that it feels in the hand and the click action, plus you can get a Bluetooth version, which is a comparative rarity. However, the reason why I sent mine back to Apple, and what I hope that they fix in any replacement, is that the right-click function was only ever about 90% accurate. This was a fundamental flaw in the mouse's design. Fix that and I'd be happy to buy another.

You can't beat the sound of a mouse click. Its called a click for a reason, not a tap.

These are, by far, the best C|NET postings I've ever seen! Thanks, 'guys!'

As for the purported Mightie Mouse, perhaps the complaints about its small size and lowered height will/could be addressed by a simple 'pad' inserted in a removable holder (bra?) to give the top a little more altitude or mass under the palm. And the height might also be increased by adding some kind of 'slipper' under the thing. If it is tall enough, one might have to also add a stocking...

Frankly, I think removing the "balls" from mice is a gruesome idea and may make computer usage less manly!!! But the scroll pad sounds like an excellent replacement for the finger-cleaner now on the Apple Mighty Mouse!

Wonder why I don't see blogs on upcoming Logitech mice? Are you guys really that desperate for Apple attention that you will post stories about an Apple mouse rumor? Surely Logitech far exceeds Apple in the mice category... so is it a slow news day or what?

" It was a nice idea, but poorly executed."

Please just get rid of the mouse already! Use a track ball ! What happened to Kensington?
I would be lost with out my orbit optical.
I don't want to see Apple with any more mice! That's so stupid in a world of shrinking space who has room for a mouse? Loose it and work on some thing worth while, a wireless track ball.
Yea I know in 5 or 10 years it will be all the rage and I'll just sigh . . . Why is technology so slow on simple things that seem so easy?
Spell checked :)
