OK, This is how Apple works!

They leave out a few simple features such as Copy and Paste, Flash, Turn by Turn GPS. Then they wait for the next version of IPhone hardware before they release it so everybody can get excited and buy a new IPHONE. Just like they did with the first gen lacking features, not released until 3G.

It's missing C&P, Java & Flash. They just don't care and laughing at us because we constantly ask for it knowing he won't ever allow it.

Did they add the ability to change the user agent string in Safari like you can on the MAC version? That would be nice because I hate it when websites decide I need the iphone version of their page and don't give me the option to see the full version.

Quite a few posters here remind me of those irritating kids sitting in the back of the car constantly nagging the parents - "Are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet???". It seems that if they prefer to behave like a child, then they should be treated as such. The iPhone is an amazing device. It's not perfect and there is room for improvement. That is evolution and I'm sure most things will be addressed.
To those whiners that can't seem to stay in their parent's basement, the missing features will get there when they get there.
Copy/Paste is not important for me. MMS while nice, is not holding me up. There are far more pluses than minuses on this phone that keeps me more than happy.
If and when they introduce these features, I'm sure the whiners will have their quick 5-minute "fix" and be right back again to finding something else to whine about.

Keep up the good work Apple!

Regarding the comment by whosblue:
(("As a BlackBerry user " you have no right to express an opinion. ))
Apparently if you don't have an iPhone proper, you are not allowed to say anything?

My MacBook Pro, my four iPods - which includes my iPod Touch which got the same 2.2 software update this morning as every iPhone got, and my MobileMe account, leave me disqualified. As stated many times in many places, AT&T service sucks, and it especially sucks where I live and would be a waste of my time and money, as I actually need my phone to do my job. I'd like to have an iPhone, but such is life.

Having been a loyal Mac user for 20 years, and an Apple ][e, Apple //c, and Apple IIgs user before that, I guess I know nothing about Apple and Mr. Jobs (who I once saw in person at a publishing trade show, back when he did that sort of thing). I am constantly dumbfounded by the parochial behavior of some in the Apple/Mac/iPhone community. Perhaps you could direct such passion towards fixing your local schools? Feeding the needy? Supporting the U.S.O.?

Hopefully, when the major carriers all move to LTE, Apple will be able to market the iPhone to any user of any network. But until that happy day arrives...

My BlackBerry gets updated from my Address Book and iCal, which themselves sync to MobileMe, which then syncs to my iPod Touch. And it all "just works."

Therefore, I'd say, yes, I do a have a right to express an opinion.

Finally I can search heavy websites with out safari crashing. Also that annoying predictive text can be turned off. Now for mms I can't tell you how many times I have gotten a text from someone who sent me a picture and I never looked at it because of the stupid id and password you have to type maybe this wouldn't be as bad with COPY AND PASTE but we don't have that either. I would think they could at least change the ATnT website to have a regular username and password so its not different everytime so you can look at a picture without it being such a hassel. Also I would love flash but that doesn't look like it will happen to late next year.

I'd be happy if the thing didn't crash as often as it does. I'm not an Mac person but it seems to me Safari has some serious issues with websites that are rendered perfectly with Firefox or IE.

The "perfect" phone is still imperfect. What?!?!?!

I'm honestly not that fussed about the lack of MMS. In Australia, it's cheaper to email than pay $1 per MMS. That said, they should still give people a choice.

Cut and Paste would be very nice as I have needed it on several occasions.

Turn by Turn GPS is a moot point as I use the GPS just fine without it.

The lack of Flash though is really annoying.

I have wanted an iPhone for a while. I thought version 2 would improve the first. It did, but not enough for me to buy it. There are still things missing.

I don't like the camera quality. While I realize that isn't why you should buy a phone, I find I do use my phone to take pictures. My current phone has a good 2MP camera WITH A FLASH. Is it fabulous? No, but it takes a better photo than the iPhone. It came in very useful for documenting that fender bender.

Having a removable SD card slot would also be nice. This is a feature of my current phone. I didn't think I would use it much, but It has come in handy way more than I thought. Sure there is loads of space on the iPhone, but I can transfer data from my SD card to my computers and back very easily using a small USB dongle

GPS...that would be great.

Bluetooth! Come on. How could they mess that up? Oh, they did.

The other thing that prevents me from getting the iPhone is probably more important than some of the features that are missing is the ATT plan. Boy did they mess that one up! I probably would have lumped the lack of some of the things I wanted if they hadn't messed the plan up. If I add that data plan to my voice plan, I'd be paying more than cable for my phone! (I have a family plan). Not everyone needs unlimited data. Of course, they expect you get addicted to the ever constant data availability. Making you add a text plan was plain crazy. WHY!!! I text more often than I use data. I want a plan that includes text and a small data package. I actually liked the old plan better.

David Thomas, your cut/paste explanation was spot on. Thanks for posting that.

I hope it stops dropping my calls. Apple Care couldn't help me at all with that problem.

Regarding MMS - such a sore topic for me personally. It's a strange thing. We have an approved app in the store (QWASI Pad), but that doesn't matter... cause we posted a true MMS applications, but it was, as you can guess, denied. You will find that the ?powers that be? (PTB) at Apple are not keen to accepting a true MMS application - we tried with our ActivMMS app submitted months ago to no avail. We hope Apple will change their "tune" and offer it in the store? but it doesn?t look good getting handed the rejection card by their review team. And what makes us different from many other groups submitting apps, QWASI has been delivering carrier-grade SMS & MMS for over 5 years since we are a true mobile messaging company. I just don't get it - this is what EVERYONE wants along with C&P.

<a href="http://www.qwasi.com/Our_Work/iPhone_Apps/" rel="nofollow">ActivMMS</a>

We hope they reconsider and will keep everyone posted? fingers crossed.

What would really be nice, in addition to MMS, Flash compatibility, and copy/cut & paste, would be at least two additional features: more privacy options for text messages (I mean, how awkward is it when you're showing someone a video or sharing pictures with a family member, and a friend or significant other decides to send you an intimate, and obviously-meant-to-be-private message, now shared with you and whoever else you're sharing media with? Why do your messages have to be out there for everyone else to read? Why can't Apple set-it-up like most phones and just tell me I have a TM? If I want it to be displayed for everyone else, that should be MY choice, not Apple's); and a larger media codec library (I would love it if my iPhone could handle .wmv and .wav files, without 3rd party apps; converting takes too much time and requires too much HD space).

And it`s full of bugs , though Cnet would not tell you this , all the other sites are reporting massive amt. of bugs.
Bottom line is they rushed it out because of the Storm release.

For all that say they don't want Flash on the iPhone. Don't use it or turn it off when if Steve gets off his ego and "allows" it to be added.

CNN, ESPN, FoodNetwork as well as many other sites rely on Flash are are unusable without it.

Turn-by-Turn directions are included on BlackBerry devices and Android.

I agree with the person that said Steve's arrogant attitude is all about the money and he's cashing in giving bits here and there to satisfy his little FanBoy's.

The iPhone can't even be compared in the Business phone category. Apple still doesn't have me.com synching correctly and no bacground push notification for apps is a joke.

I wish I would have waited for the Storm.

Just updated my phone and I cannot put emails in the trash anymore. Does apple even use beta testers? I called customer service and they do not have a fix, but are aware of the problem. Of course there is no way to remove the update. Also it took 1 hour to back up my phone, another problem I thought apple had fixed.

i experienced the same problem with my email. Still am, actually. They need to fix that soon, because it's incredibly frustrating. I don't think this should have been a full .1 update. it could have been 2.1.1, the size of the update got alot of hopes up, and still is missing alot of crutial things. Something nobody seems to be mentioning, that was brought up before, is the lack of landscape texting! It's such a simple fix, and yet, several updates later, NOTHING! Oh well, thus is the psychology of Apple. It really is brilliant marketing.

I was able to fix the trash emails problem with my AOL by deleting the email acct then reinstaling it. After that I turned the acct. off then turned it back on againin settings.. The only problem is that when you delete the emals they are gone for good. They used to go to recently deleted.

I am glad they have added wireless podcasts but that feature still needs a lot of work. I wish they could incorporate the ITunes podcast functionality into the iPhone.

If my 4 year old Sony Ericsson phone can handle copy and paste and multimedia messaging then it is possible for the iPhone to do it. I think I'll just upgrade to another Sony Ericsson rather than getting an iPhone. Flash is kind of unnecessary. Turn by turn GPS is really useful though. The Sony Ericsson I'm looking at has AT&T navigator so it solves that problem. But it all seriousness copy and paste is the simplest and very useful feature on a phone. I use it all the time, especially when handling my contact list and text messages. I have tons of both.

I wouldn't mind having the iPhone record videos... that would be something that I would definately use.

I'm afraid for that you'll have to go a step up (but, curiously enough, not necessarily pay more) and get a real smartphone, such as Nokia N96, for example, which allows you to record videos with DVD quality with its 5 MP camera.

Update? Bug fix? Improved stability? Improved performance? Improved phone quality? Improved sound quality?

I'm confused: I thought Apple products "just worked" out-of-the-box and only Microsoft products needed updates, especially regarding stability and performance. :-S Must have confused it with something else.

P.S. A "smartphone" with no cutting and pasting, no MMS messaging, no GPS turn-by-turn directions? iPhone users must have never used a real smartphone, such as e.g. Nokia N96, LOL.
