Anyone else still getting an error whenever they try to update any application? I repeatedly get the same error no matter the application, so I assume it is an apple firmware issue.

Great, great, great update. I now get 3-5 bars of 3G everywhere in the Atlanta area, and the battery life has dramatically improved at the same time. Get an Iphone 3G!!!

From reading the comments i would have to say there is probably a few bad batches of iphone out there which have hardware issues. Thouh they decided to go the cheap route and use overseas labor to put them together, Apple isn't the first company to do that. I would bet if hey could collect serial #'s of the devices that are still having issues that they would see a pattern and be able to recall only the non working devices and completly fix this. I had a co worker get an iphone and the connection was stable, issue now may be more toward the att side to get more 3g towers deployed and live. I would expect that when my contract is up in april and i can get an upgrade there will be sufficient coverage. Of course by then they will be preparing to release the iphone 3rd gen device. I expect they will be releasing a new one every year and people will flock to get it. As for me i may wait a few generations more because i need more space to hold my media. How about at least an 80 GB itouch or iphone, or put an sd card slot in the iphone to make it be able to have unlimited storage. My tilt can handle a 32GB micro sd card. When the price comes down i am going to buy about 4 of them for use with apps and media, but if the iphone could handle the cards imagine the increase in the amount of media and apps and everything else that would be bought from itunes. Along those lines how about a subscription service for at least unlimited music download or streaming to the iphone/itouch.

BLipman I think your right on the money apple if wants to preserve it good name, apple needs to Identify the defective Iphone 2's and recall them. It maybe pricey in the short run, but the free advertising and the good will that they would generation by "doing the right thing" and volutaraly recalling the defective Iphone 2's (about 25% of the first production run). In the long run it will be cheaper than defending a numerious class action law suits, that will end disclosing the less than savory characters that are manufacting apples phones or the disclosure of documents showing apple new they had serious quality control issues at some of their thrid world asian assemble plants. Americans love a good Mea Clupa, Apple if their smart will get in front of this and recall the defect units, but will see if Steve Jobs hubris gets in the way of good business common sense.

My iPhone is much more stable and I am pretty satisfied. I have noticed what I believe to be a new bug in email. You can hit space as many times as you want at the end of the line and the cursor will not move and any word you type after will apear to be in the right place on the next line, but when the email is opened on receipt the large space gap will be there.

I updated the software on Friday. I don't see any improvement in 3G reception. It is still dropping the calls. Contact are still slow. And had to reset it once in a day to make sure its showing right battery life. And Battery life hasn't improved at all.

Apple should allow to return the iphones without having to pay the penalty for breaking the contract. I will be the first one to do that.

It different, its browser is good, but its phone, it suppose to allow you to make uninterpreted calls, that what is most important and its not doing that. I didn't expected this bad product from apple, and thought in the 2.1 update all these problem are solved. now I am stuck with the contract. Apple is no different that Microsoft, at least Microsoft don't bind you in a contract .

gvc I think you've got one of 25% of the Iphone 2's that are duds. I go back and see if you can get a new none dud phone. Check your state public ulities commission (or who ever regulates cell phones in your state) . Most states have contract escape clauses if crapple opps apple or att can't provide you with a fully funcational Iphone. Most of the time if you have your facts right and you stay clam and professional you most likely get your self a non dud Iphone to finnish out your contract. But this is why generally I never buy the hot new cell phone I always give a phone 2 to 3 months to let the other suckers work out the bugs or for a turkey to be found out and aviod the purchase all together.

Looks like Steve Jobs stepped into Mac`s "Time Machine" and turned into an iritating old woman who runs around with a leaf blower and fixes blown head gaskets.

hmmmm ParcSboj Im not a apple fan boy Ive always had a cdma cell, first sprint now verizon. I point is based on posting here and other cell phone forums firmware 2.1 seems (at face value) to clean up alot issues for Iphone 2 users that do not have a defectively manufactored phone (my estimate 25% to 35% iphone2's have build/hardware issues). Apple should not have released phone with ethier gross defective soft/firm ware issues or know quality of manufactor issues. Belive me son Ive always though apples hype machine is full of feces, I was just pointing out for a large number of the Iphone 2 buyers jesus could do the coding on their next patch and it wont matter because large number of the Iphone 2's need to recalled not patched.

I just loaded 2.1 and my GPS doesn't seem to be able to locate my location anymore. Its as if the iphone is not able to use the GPS chip but instead uses the cell sites to find my "location" on the map. The phone cannot pin down my exact location anymore even when i'm outdoors. And when it does it is way off (it was working before the upgrade) and sometimes it losses the location.

I also got an diagnostic error after the upgrade.

Is anyone else seeing this issue with the GPS feature on the iphone using 2.1?
