We are already paying for it and paying too much for "access" $130 per month for the unlimited plan is ridiculous! Without laptop access it's a waste, your paying twice as much as your home internet and get 1/100 th of the bandwidth.
Apple should wake up and listen to the people, there are a lot competitive products out there. limiting carriers, non tethering, no IR port and poor response to dropped calls. What is it that draws people to a product thats this poor.
I expected more from Apple. I don't have one, I'm waiting to see some thing favorable in the news, it's been a long wait and I think I may just stick with Verizon. As a road worrier I can't be limited with an iPhone.

So you are already paying for an iPhone in your first sentence, but in the next one you are on Verizon??
How about getting one and trying it before making judgements. I LOVE my iPhone and the access fee is on par with any other PDA available. (Unless you count Sprint or T-mobile, which I don't because I like to be able to make calls and not have dead spots every 5 steps)

Well you can consider all 20K+ Realtors in northern NJ stuck in the 1980's because our key system uses ONLY "IR" I can't believe it either but it seems were stuck with it! I still like the fact that if I can't find the remote for the TV I can use my phone. To just delete the capability is harsh, Apple seems to do this a lot. Just abandon older technology and expect people to upgrade as if we had the unlimited resources of SJ.
As for the plan you don't need an Iphone to get the unlimited plan. and I know plenty of people who are trying to push me into an Iphone so I have used one already and their not all that and a slice of bread!

Where did you get this $130 for unlimited #. I only pay $75 for unlimited and I actually own an iPhone unlike you. Even though you try to imply that you do.

The broader issue for iPhone owners, developers and non-US carriers is not whether Apple and AT&T start to offer tethering, but how they can justify having pulled the app in the first place. It wreaks of greed and utter contempt for consumers, developers and Apple's global carrier partners.

Still torn. I've been a very loyal fan and Apple customer for almost 20 years. I was just about to spring for the first generation iPhone when the 3G was announced. So, I waited patiently for its release. Now I'm very hesitant to buy the 3G because of the issues surrounding it. I need to make a decision quickly because my 4 year old Motorola cell phone is dying. I may just buy a new Mot phone and stick with Verizon.

What's the status of iPhone in China? When is it launching there?

You know, I think that because Apple is the company it is and because they are doing most of the marketing, etc, we tend to blame them for things like this. I would guess that Apple's agreement with AT&T is controlling tethering which is why Apple pulled/rejected the app. I think the tethering issue rests squarely on the heads of AT&T with this one. For those complaining about cost of the data plan and other things, those things are also carrier specific, and not in Apple's hands.

When something happens with my phone, I call my carrier, not my phone manufacturer. I understand why Apple gets all the attention, but I don't think they deserve it. The flipside is that they take all the credit for the good as well as the bad, so in the long run I think they will come out on top.

I call bulldooky on this idea that The Jobs is becoming AT ALL responsive to customer suggestions or complaints, however they might come to him. If this was the case, the iPhone would already have cut-and-paste and landscape keyboards in all operation modes, things with which AT&T would have nothing to do.

The lack of ability to tether (take video, bluetooth, etc.) kept me from purchasing an iPhone for 6 weeks, then I caved and bought two, one for the wife. (I keep my Sony Ericsson in reserve for emergencies.)

Still no tethering or cut and paste, and their calndar sucks, but I have to confess I still love my iphone. Even though it'sa kind of love hate relationship. Why can't apple actually respond to their users. From what I've heard of 3.0, these changes aren't necessarily on the horizon.
