It is doubtful that Apple will announce an affordable upgradable mini-tower any time soon. Best thing about their new product announcements is that it makes prices on pre-owned gear go down. I don't need the latest gear. Just something that A) isn't running Windows and B) just works.

I just want Steve to fix the iPhone 3G 100%, before moving on to new adventures with Apple Corp. At least he/Apple could resolve the dropped calls issues, once and for all, and make that all just go away... That stinks in a $500 16GB Flash Memory Smart Phone. He could also just as well address its BlueTooth shortcomings, namely no streaming music protocol in the iPhone 3G. I believe it's "AC2D" BT Protocol that needs to be added, but it's a simply software/firmware fix, and he could get that handled with a simple office memo order, or a handshake, however he does it. That phone could use wireless BlueTooth streaming headphone viability, which so many other smart phones with 3G already have, like the Nokia A6880, the SamSung 737A, and many others I could name that have the ability to use a device like the MotoRokr BlueTooth Stereo Headset, for both listening to streaming music from the phone's hardware, or answer a phone call with a tap on the side of the MotoRokr controller in the earpieces. There's no excuse for Apple's new $500+ iPhone 3G for not having streaming Bluetooth music protocol built right into it, since it already has the simple "normal" headset BlueTooth protocol for a regular earpiece device. Just how much trouble would it be to add streaming Bluetooth music protocol to the iPhone 3G, since it already had BlueTooth built into it? NOT MUCH, it turns out. I have it on good authority, from an engineer within Apple Cupertino, that it's a simple firmware upgrade and software update to do the job, so let's get that handled before you forget about the iPhone 3G's consumer base, which would love to have this feature built into the iPhone 3G!!

Other than the iPhone issues, I am 100% pleased with the Apple product line as it exists right now, though you will see speed bumps across the product line, especially in the Mini's and low-end units like the MacBooks (in fact, new MacBooks will be out most likely), and as for a " mid-range and upgradeable Mac tower " per the other gentleman's suggestion? It's just not gonna happen. My suggestion to him, and others like him: convert to the high-end iMac 24" 2.8Ghz or 3.16Ghz C2DuoXtreme computers, add 4GB RAM, a fast SATA II 2TB external FireWire 800 hard drive system like Western Digital's MyBook ProEdition II, which is multi-configurable into anything your heart desires, and be happy!
Apple will never again make an "entry level" consumer mid-range tower computer: those days are gone, gone-gone, and will never be seen again in the Intel Age of Apple Corporation.

Apple makes such a great variety of consumer and pro-sumer machines right now, that I can't imagine them diverging much from the path they've already staked out for themselves; they're just going to make what they have now ever better, and make the new iPhone 3G the best little smart phone since sliced bread once they get its network and BlueTooth kinks worked out.

I appreciate the suggestion, I've actually struggled with the thought of using an iMac more than once. The main reason why I don't are their graphic card choices. Since they are not upgradable they need to be a lot better. I cannot buy a system that gives me a choice between two graphics cards that are a full two generations behind currently available choices on other systems. If you are an ATI fan like I am you want a 4870. But not only do they not have a 3870 option they go all the way back to the 2600... No Thanks. That wouldn't be a problem if I could upgrade it on my own... but I can't. So I won't be buying one of those.

bowlie 1 I fail to grasp your intellectually challenging remarks, but will leave that for another time. I stand by those comments above, and will be very grateful when the iPhone 3G's issues are finally worked out to everyone's satisfaction, and BlueTooth streaming music is part of the package...like it should have been since the beginning. How you leave THAT out of a $500 smart phone is beyond my ability to reason....it's sort of laissez-faire for that type of device, ie they ALL have the ability to stream music via BlueTooth, all that is except the iPhone 3G.

I want my cake and eat it too!
