The new software supposedly comes with various "bug fixes," although it's not clear right now exactly what bugs Apple chose to tackle with the new software.

I am glad this update is being released I hope they include core GPS functions within this update as a developer for the iphone this is needed for the LBS applications to grow the industry just remember you can't do it alone! http://www.iphonefindme.com

I instaled the update on my 16GB iPhone 3G. I noticed that the landscape keyboard is no longer slow, and my multi-hundred name contact list appears almost immediately.

I can't recall anyone ever saying that, but my iPhone has proved to be very reliable - unlike my colleague's Treo 750, which requires resets as many as 2-3 times a day.

weird... my iphone crashes daily with the app store apps... maybe its just my phone..

In line w/ Galaxy5's comments it seems that the scrolling on the contact list is immediate (was really slow before update). What I mean is when the contact list loads you can scroll immediately - no waiting list last time. Also, before the update there was some lag in typing on the keyboard when writing emails or sms messages. This seems to have been fixed as well. So far, no negatives w/ the update.

Just installed it and the responsiveness of the touch UI has improved dramatically.

The biggest bug was exchange mandatory password and was unable to disable the password feature as no option to disable it.... had to flash the phone back to new condition.

The new update didn't fix the 3g reception problem whatsoever. I used to have 2 bars of reception inside my apartment, but now I don't even get service inside my apartment if I use 3G.
I have to turn off 3G to get service inside my apartment.
I live in Astoria Queens NY.

Never attribute to the receiver, data pump, or software that what can be explained by an incomplete or in-progress network deployment. Our neighborhood in San Jose is filled with some of the titans of industry....and our neighborhood bulletin board is rife with complaints from all sorts of ATT 3G customers - not just iPhone owners.

In other words, even here in Silicon Valley, 3G reception is not great; there are a lot of handoffs when in motion, and they don't seem graceful at all.

I got similar speeds while in motion while using Metricom's Ricochet 128kbps network seven years ago.

1- STILL NO 3G SERVICE(HAVE YET TO EVEN SEE THE 3G SYMBOL) , AND I LIVE 2 BLOCKS AWAY FROM A 3G CELL PHONE TOWER (CONFIRMED BY AT&T)

2-CONTACT LIST SLIGHTLY FASTER BUT NOT INSTANT.

3-TEXTING AND WI-FI SIGNAL MUCH MUCH BETTER.

YES CAPS.....APPLE BETTER START DOING SOME FIRING. WHAT DID THEY GET THOSE STONER GUYS FROM GRANDMA'S BOY TO BUILD THIS THING?

GET OFF YOUR YACHT AND FIX YOUR ******* PRODUCT.

Same issue here, I have to turn off 3G just to get some bars to appear and that's not just in my house. Even when I can get the 3G signal to appear on the phone, it's only there for about 10 seconds and then goes to "no service" and then finally back on the edge network.

What a waste and I should have stayed on the EVDO network with Sprint - what was I thinking...

2.0.1 seems to have made my iPhone more responsive. I agree with the posts that talk about the keyboard and contact list. Other than that, I haven't noticed anything new.

And just a quick sidenote to all the complainers....
Before your 30-days with AT&T is up and you can't cancel, please go cancel your accounts. I'm so tired of all these people who made the decision to move to the iPhone because they thought it was cool, and now are complaining about the service. Go back to Verizon, Sprint, whoever, and get back the service that works best for you.

Stop choosing your cell carrier by who has the coolest phone!!!

AT&T offers exceptional service in my area, and I have 3g almost everywhere I go on a regular basis.

Well i wish i could be as pissed off as everyone else BUT i feel this update has improved the phone greatly. I am NOW getting 3G is areas i never use to have it, and yes everything is loading faster!! I think the update was great, and i do love the phone.

one of my iphone 3G's is now a brick. Updated my wife's phone without a problem. Updated mine and I get the 1604 error. Have tried to update on the latest version of itunes and still can't restore. Also tried restoring on anther mac.I suspect it has to do with the fact that I downloaded an app directly from my iphone the other day - found a similar issue on the support pages.

Not sure if people notice - I think the virtual keyboard has larger keys now and a lot more easier to type. Also, I have had my phone for a full week now. It has not had a crash or freeze up yet.

Big Problems. At 98% or so it stopped. After 6 hours and a call to Apple I finally got it on and working. Some of the problems were Itunes 7.71 It would not let the phone out of restore loop. I am a 30 year user and know what I am doing. For the average person they would be sitting at the Apple store with one of the "genius's" this morning.
