Democrats in the White House and Congress will make it easier to push efforts on Net neutrality, trade restrictions, and copyright changes. Also: Who will be Obama's tech czar?

I just hope the new CTO uses email on his own without a secretary printing messages and taking dictation.

Under Obama's reign (of terror) there will be no future. If he is successful in taxing the heck out of businesses, they will have no choice but to let people go and ship the jobs overseas or go out of business. We need to have a small and nimble government, not a large and overbearing government.

Obama will push for broadband for everyone in order to get his own personallity cult fueled by streaming webcasts of his speeches onto everyone's computer.

"Additionally, Obama has only promised to expand the H1-B visa program temporarily. "

It was my understanding that Obama plans to push the increase in the use of U.S. labor instead of foreign workers/contractors and off-shore efforts, and this was part of his attempt to increase jobs in the U.S.. So I believe limiting the expansion of the H1-B visa program fits in this line of thinking.

What's this news about? Obama have nothing to do with tech... I mean, who asked Bush about tech? It's insane. The Presisdent doesn't have to do with technologies, in ANY possible way! I cannot understand Cnet...

PS: I'm really happy Obama won. McCain was.... well, another Bush in any way, a smarted Bush, but a Bush. Obama isn't "everything change", but a medical insurance for all is a big deal! I really hope that the US will become mode loved in the world with him. Right now, the US are the worst, and we can all understand why after 8 years of Bush.

Obama has also expressed support for moving tech jobs back onshore in two ways:

1) Eliminating tax breaks for companies that send jobs offshort.

2) Enacting tax breaks for companies that move them back onshore.

And I think the Chinese have it correct. Their response to the election was cautious in their hope that a Democrat administration does not implement trade barriers or tariffs ("protectionism" was the word used) as part of the remedy to our economic crisis.

Forget the Hitler comments. Let's get back to the point. Obama is the first president(elect) to use the internet and new technologies in his campaign and the first to understand it's implications. Let's try to be positive and support his presidency rather than try to tear it down before he even takes office. As US citizens we have something to say about what happens in the future. Vote with your wallets, with your keyboards, and with your own efforts.

Big O needs a chance to show what he can do. metaphorically speaking, sink or swim. I say give him a shovel and see what he digs up or buries. Depending, he can succeed or become irrelevant in 2 years and unemployed in 4 if he falls flat. He talks a good line but can he walk the walk. Time will tell but enough voters want to give him a chance. I don't support his politics and wont bend over to bail him out. If I bend over who knows what will follow.

we will have to wait and see, but I'm scared. Obama stated in interviews that he wants to drastically reduce the size of our military and eliminated our nuclear arms; there go many jobs to the wayside and what of defenses? He doesn't want us to own guns, so I can't defend myself or my family from an intruder. He stated many times about goverment run economy programs, ie health care which many nations have tried this thing called socialism and failed.

Also, dare I remind you of Kenya a few years ago. They had an election and Obama's Cousin lost and incited a riot in the name of Islam. Killing innocent people in order to gain control. Barack Obama on our tax payer dollars was his cousins political advisor.

Believe what you will, but in either case pray for this Nation. Hopefully, things don't go badly.

And for the Bigots and name callers out there, I don't give a damn what skin color Obama is or anyone else and the longer you play that card, the longer racism will be around.

As for Obama being Odinga's cousin... http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/kenya.asp

As for socialism... Remember those $600 checks the government sent to everyone earlier this year. Maybe you remember the $300 checks sent out in 2001/2002. Could you take a moment and explain to me how that isn't socialism? Wait, let me guess, you sent your's back to the goverment with a big 'No thank you Comrade!' written on it.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about regarding past or new Presidents. The past is behind us and we all better support our Government Leaders (both sides!) with our voices and opinions and support considering the TREMENDOUS challenges we are all faced with today.

Obama:
Since he gave his first national address at the DNC, Obama has really not changed his messages of an America of Unity and Hope! How could anyone find fault with this?
It is in all our differences that we find differences while forming/shaping our view-review of the way "things out to be"...and this is a good process....

HOWEVER, WE ALL better begin doing a BETTER job of striding forward TOGETHER or face the potential consequences of an also-ran democracy some day.
I have friends who are fighting in Kirkuk right now, who chose to forgo college because they saw this personal action option (and accountability towards their country) as the single most importan thing they could contribute... at this time, for them.

I ask all of you on both sides of these arguments to change the subject to something CREATIVE!!

What specifically are YOU going to do to add value to your country?
What are you going to do to be MORE productive within your own careers and individual society contributor?
Are you planning on volunteering to help those less fortunate than you?
Are you volunteering to better educate children that may not have both parents around?
WHERE is YOUR focus TODAY on making OUR country BETTER for tomorrow?

Democrats and Republicans...I can find MANY of each party that are inspiring and others I would choose never to follow....BUT, I suggest we all pick a cause that best suits your interests and strengths and do a better job at it than ever before.

Our country needs us all. I choose UNITY not Division.
Let's work on what we enjoy about each other....after all, we only have 60- 90 years each on this planet to make our "mark" or legacy.......what do you choose yours to be?

My hope is OUR COMBINED LEGACY will be better than our forefathers!!

They talk about "The Greatest Generation" in books written by good folks.....I suggest there are opportunities for many to shine in our USA society today....many opportunities to create a better world for generations to come.

NOW is our time!! Are you ready? What is your plan?

So let me get this right. First some people complain about Obama not having enough experience. Now that he's putting together a team with experience you're getting angry about it. ***? Do people even spend a second to think about anything?
by bear740 November 6, 2008 4:24 PM PST
I think like everything else, technology will suffer. If you put the Government into anything it fails. Obama's Presidency will stifle small business, as well as large business, they will get hit with heavy taxes like we all will no matter what he has said. The bottom line is that no one will be able to afford to spend for luxury items like tech gear, because we will all be paying triple taxes then before. Entrepreneur's will be stifled. The economy will tank. There is a good reason why business and wall street hate Democrats and we will find out soon enough. You Obama supporters that wanted change, get ready you are about to get it!

Bingo we have a winner. New tech takes venture capital (ie stocks, private investors) sense under barry the the magic socialist all capital is EVIL and must be taxed and diverted into government coffers and redistributed in the form of welfare non productive dregs of society (ie the non working stoners who voted for barry) We'll have no private capital to start up private companys like crapple oops apple ? Who did you think steve job and Woze got their money form the tooth fairy? Hmmm tax the hell out of most productive members of society thats the fast track to wealth and a productive society. Honestly we need to raise the voting age for Demo's to at least 50 or at least pass a 48 hour rule of no smoke'n of drugs before you vote. This election is more proof of the failed american education system .

What I find disturbing is the lack of common sense in the majority of these posts.

Kwasiowusu and Reader3424 are like the old story of the blind men and the elephant. One grabs its (elephants) tail and says it is like a rope. One grabs its ear and says, no it is like a sail. Another grabs its trunk and proclaims it is like a snake.

When Bush (W) was elected the Dems (but not all, just the more vocal ones) immediatly started bashing him, so why the surprise now that it is the other way around (again not all, just the vocal)? DId Carter make mistakes? Yes. Has Bush made mistakes? Plenty (and by the way I consider myself a Republican). There are facts both for and against EVERY president.

Has Obama associated with some shady characters in his past? YES, however, of more concern to me is does he STILL associate with them? NO. Heck, some of MY associates from several years ago are in jail.

Has Obama changed his position on some of his points of view and policies? YES, until proven otherwise, I think that MAYBE becuase the situation changed, like being in this recesion these last 2 months, or new information became available to him and he changed based on haw things stand now.

As to the ORIGINAL question, He will be BAD for technology becuase he will do SOMETHING sombody doesn't like. But he will ALSO be GOOD for it too only time will tell which he will be remembered for.

P.S. I is just a poo small towwn high skool grad, so I doesnt spelz too good.
