maybe Twitter's ability to form weak connections and house communities of practice is its strength, as we can see, that's not how these Gen Y's are using it, and maybe that's why many of them don't find value in it. If their primary desires are around friends, family and celebrities (two strong links and one observation), then it is fitting that Twitter may not be of so much interest..

I wrote my theories around Gen Y's age and priorities and how they fit with Twitter a while ago if anyone cares http://mollybob.wordpress.com/2009/05/21/twitter-generation-y/

Enjoying the discussion being had here at any rate - think JoeDuck1 may be onto something regarding habituation up there too.

ok...lots of folks saying they think twitter is not useful.

So, what software tools/websites do you find are really useful. (obviously, search is a good example of very useful regardless of whether you choose to use google, bing, wolfram, etx.

Is something like this (www.Zimini.com) useful?

its because twitter is boring. there is nothing to do in twitter. you can only tweet, and after a while of updating your tweets and reading strangers whereabouts, youngsters finally get bored. i belong to that category of people who after a while ( to be precise, 1 week) got bored of twitter and have switched to other sites.
youngsters like to do more to pass their time in the internet. they want to upload photos, videos, chat with friends, join communities, etc which is typical of social networking sites and not twitter.
i browse the web for exciting new sites and each day i happen to spot quite a few.
one among them is http://atflashback.com i find this site interesting and there is lot to do in it without getting bored and you are safe as well.
