It will be the 1,000,000th follower for either CNN or Ashton Kutcher.

I would second the Google buyout speculation. And then I'll cancel my account accordingly as I don't want to see Google destroy it by commercializing it to death.

I say it will be the announcement of Twitter's sale. The next status update from @ev and @biz will be from their private island somewhere in the south pacific.

Definitely a Google buyout, since it coincides with Google's 1st quarter earnings release this evening. What was the price Google paid? Let's find out tonight...

They're going to implement the oldest Internet business model, in order to finally make money, while re-branding the service as *******.

They will come out of negotiations with Microsoft and Google. Of course Microsoft doesn't really want it, their goal is just to drive the cost sky high for Google to waist there money on it. Remember, there never has been a business model for this company without the big boys folding it into their aspirations.

Twitter let me post more than 140 characters this morning. And I've noticed that tweets have their own individual pages now. (For example: http://twitter.com/photorina/status/1536026042) I bet you anything that's the big announcement. If so, that's a really big change!

I don't get the draw with Twitter. Someone is going to overpay big time for this thing.

I can only hope it is the "we're not evil" google.

Might be lil news, just like Sony had a announcement and everyone thought it was something big ($100 price cut on the PS3). Instead the announcement was about the PS2 for only $100. lol

Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About The Social

CNET News' Caroline McCarthy is a downtown Manhattanite who believes that, despite popular opinion, the Web can actually help your social life. She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)
