Comments on: Young entrepreneurs bond on the beach

Sure, the Young World Leaders Summit was at a luxury resort in Cancun. But that doesn't mean attendees weren't thinking about the dire economy.

Other reports from almost 6 months ago also state that entrepreneurs are really moved to do some kiteboarding instead of doing some lame sun tanning.

Any manufacturers in this elite group? I suppose not. It's not cool to make tangible things anymore. We'll make our billions by selling advertising and leave the manufacturing to the Chinese.

So, why is this a news worthy story? I am not sure whether I can this... Was it really necessary to network in Mexico? I guess they wanted to make it less ridiculous by throwing in some non-profit companies to the mix. I have no qualm of people going on vacation and spending money. However, having "networking" as an excuse to "hangout"? That's just cowardly. Again, I ask why is this news...

"--other guests at the quiet resort must have thought it was some kind of fraternity reunion or bachelor party."

Actually we just couldn't wait until they left, so we could enjoy our vacation.

CNET News' Caroline McCarthy is a downtown Manhattanite who believes that, despite popular opinion, the Web can actually help your social life. She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)
