Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
CNET News' Caroline McCarthy is a downtown Manhattanite who believes that, despite popular opinion, the Web can actually help your social life. She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)

(6 Comments)The one of three reasons I give is that they already have massive trouble trying to turn a profit on their Youtube deal, the reason that is because the user base is highly hostile to change an Facebook users are the same, highly hostile to change. And for to google to make money on such a deal would require them to make major changes to the site.
A second reason is that I doubt Microsoft would let them buy Facebook, through I would not be surprise if Google were to try and force their hand and let Microsoft burn of more money into Facebook.
A third reason is that I do not want them to. The reason is that I feel as a company that Google needs consolidate what it already doing and at the moment I feel that they are already overstretching themselves. Instead I want them to focus on their current projects and may actually get a few of their long term betas, like Gmail actually out of beta. Also may be they could actually developed google sketch a bit to.
A other reason is I want to see how big Facebook can actually get with a joining a other bigger company. Also i want to actually used other sites that are not own by Google. At the moment virtually every site I used is owned by Google, apart from Cnet, BBC, and Facebook, and a few others.
