Comments on: Bank robber hires decoys on Craigslist, fools cops

A crook who's apparently seen The Thomas Crowne Affair too many times was able to get away with an armored truck robbery in Washington by soliciting decoys on Craigslist with the promise of a road maintenance job.

Very creative and a good read. But eventually he'll be watching the movie of his stunt from prison.

Incredible...

He no doubt was inspired by a Hollywood hatched plan, and what's even more outrageous that it simply (although well thought out) worked,- is how many other desperate people this story would encourage to try something along the same theme in their town. Better start paying the police to look at more than erotic services offered on CL.

After reading these comments I now clearly understand why this country is in the situation it's in. People, get a life! Work hard, stumble, pick yourself up, and try again. Then fight to keep all that you earned.

So here are some movies the naysayers should be watching:
1) The Fugutive. Innocent man get's framed for murders, commits several crimes to save his live
2) The life of David Gale. Innocent man goes to jail to prove his point, and journalist is willing to do the same.
3) The Matrix: That's just a great movie (also shows you not to take 'reality' too serious.
4) Shindler's List: shows you how far people will go when their buttons get pushed
5) Craig's List (2010): you know what this movie will be about

Anyway, many people don't understand the difference between ethics, morals and law. Law is an invention. I remember an outdated law that stated that you had to carry at least $10 on you, or you could be arrested for being a homeless. Ethics are what people in a culture find 'good vs. bad', and morals are what you yourself find 'good vs. bad'. Doing something against the law doesn't make you a bad person.... I think you should think hard when you say you abide to the law yourself. Did you pay your taxes?... All of them??

So please comment on this: is a Robin Hood a good or a bad person? Is a person who overthrows a dictator using violence a good or a bad person? And.. are you a good or a bad person? Think hard.

The gentleman in question seems to have studied the well-planned assassination of creepy Mafiosi Paul Castellano, who was whacked in broad daylight by four guys wearing identical outlandish costumes - which was, of course, all that witnesses could remember to tell the cops (who were most probably not that keen on busting anybody anyhow, except maybe for littering).

A gangsterbb.net sums it up, as follows:

"Frankie DeCicco planned the hit brilliantly. He used five men, dressed in identical coats and hats and using identical .380 Auto handguns, as the shooters. It made positive identification almost impossible."

Or perhaps DeCicco / Gravano and their colleagues heard about a similar event elsewhere, which our clever yellow-vested subject also knew of.

Rubber inner tube getaway. Hmmm. Cop jumps in a canoe: "Follow that tube!".

Of course it was Caliphonya.

The government officials are thieves and so are banks. And yes income tax is illegal! Freaking Socialist. bash me all you want it just means one of two things. You are either freaking rich either by hard work but mostly luck and don't care, or you are a blind mindless robot just like the government likes. In my opinion government officials should not be allowed to make more than $150,000 a year and actors, musicians, entertainers and sports athletes should be making a bit less than that. We have so many starving and homeless people in the US or even people on the verge of these things that no damn football player needs to make 4 million a year or a rapper who makes 10 million a year and has gold teeth and an X box in his bathroom. the real crime is that we brainwashed to worship these people like gods! America is ill and the only cure is to wake up and readjust our priorities! I will say it again... The government is Bull ****

I do not think this man should be praised or applauded for being "innovative". I consider myself to be an honest person who is trying to make ends meet with the economy at present, and I have not felt the need to premeditate a robbery involving manipulating other people to unknowingly aide in a crime. This man is not in touch with reality and anyone who can "understand" his actions needs a reality check of their own. I am sure the security guard who was pepper sprayed and family would agree.

Yeah. It's not my money. I think a little bank robbery every now and then is good for the people that insure the money, lets them know what its like to be [explitive deleted]. Not that its really enough for them to notice, though I'm sure its quite enough for the bank robber to not have to work for a few months/years.

To Caroline McCarthy, the author of the original blog entry...

Perhaps you should change the name of the blog to 'The Anti-Social' .... You seem so impressed with the criminal.

Okay, since you seem to want him to have the money, can we just get your account number so we can deduct the amount from your savings....? Or maybe we can come to your house and you can hand it over after you take a shot of pepper spray to the face?

No, that would be illegal. More importantly, it would be wrong.

We'll see how good this guy is if he actually gets caught.

I'm assuming the bag wasn't a 1 gallon sack, but actually a 3 to 6 cubic foot carrier; which would be "a substantial amount of money."

Dear Caroline,

How dare you have a job. You should feel terrible for thinking this is interesting. We all hate you SO MUCH.

Also: your own blog? Awesome. I probably won't be able to make it next thursday but give me a ring next time you're in Princeton.

Get real, the guy robbed a bank! No excuses regardless of how clever the crime was.. Admittedly it was very original.. Hope this does not spawn a whole series of copycat crimes..

Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.
