Comments on: Web leaders on economy: Keep calm and carry on

At the Web 2.0 Expo in New York, just a stone's throw from the turmoil on Wall Street, it was hard not to notice the financial-industry meltdown.

Re: "Of course, they're all pretty relieved that the tech industry can't be blamed for this economic meltdown...." Who really knows whether or not the "tech industry" is not partially to be blamed for "this economic meltdown"!!! Four simple words and one "missing" but "sophisticated" functionality - "Economic Rate of Return (ERR)". Do the research and you will all see that - "Commander_Spock Told You So". Re: "Who really knows whether or not the "tech industry" is not partially to be blamed for "this economic meltdown"!!! And, here is why this may be so - "T_h_e--I_G_N_O_R_I_N_G--O_F--(o_r--S_t_o_p)--W_o_r_k- O_r_d_e_r_s" On The Development Continuum of APIs" For the "missing" and "simple" but "sophisticated" functionality - "Economic Rate of Return (ERR)". And, now we may see at length and at last the "bankers" and the "tech industry folks" figuring out firstly "what functionalities" the "analytical tools" should comprise of and not what the "tech industry folks" think they should be. The big question is: Are the folks in the "tech industry" really off the hook.... after all, it is said that "Technology Rules The World. Do you get the drift?

Yeah, keep calm while the sky is falling. The bombs don't hit you when you're down so low...

Fact is that my parents are doing well with their jobs in the health care industry as lab technicians. So are most of the other people who I have talked with, and some people who were doing 'bad' are doing better now.

Bush has messed up our economy big time.... but it appears that some industries are insulated from the problems going on right now.

15 sites that went kaput in 2009

Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About The Social

CNET News' Caroline McCarthy is a downtown Manhattanite who believes that, despite popular opinion, the Web can actually help your social life. She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)
