"Social music" is on the rise even as the music industry suffers. An album release partnership with iLike could be the first of many music deals for Mark Zuckerberg's fast-growing company.

Can't find any iLink app on facebook, same with a website. Last.fm is a better choice I guess when it's about music - facebook app, music community, all there.

I find it very interesting that Facebook was created to allow college student to have better contact with other college students from their high school and the creator always said he was not in any way attempting or going to attempt to challenge myspace, yet everything Facebook does seems to be a challenge or method to win 1 over myspace and get more users.
I guess it's the reason quite a few college students deleted their account once Facebook became open for the public.

The more ways in which consumers can access their music the better, but due to the emotive nature of music, there needs to be a certain trust and reputation for music behind the music provider in order for online services to work, this is what Facebook is unable to achieve on its own, so to ask whether Facebook has the answer to MySpace is irrelevant. Facebook needs a partner who has a reputation for Music. Having Peter Gabriel as one of our founding members at We7 has always created that trust between fans and accessing their music online. Music has always been our first thought and along with providing an easy to use and realistic alternative to piracy for our users.

15 sites that went kaput in 2009

Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.

Top 10 news stories of the decade

Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

About The Social

CNET News' Caroline McCarthy is a downtown Manhattanite who believes that, despite popular opinion, the Web can actually help your social life. She's happily addicted to fun social-media tools from Twitter to Yelp to Facebook, sends an inordinate number of text messages, and has a tendency to waste time at the office reading restaurant blogs. Here, she explores all facets of the Web's gregarious side, as well as the unique tech culture in her home city of New York. (Don't call it Silicon Alley.)
