My old room-mate from SUNY at SB (Steve) has not been particularly active on this blog lately. I hope he gets back to it soon, because I thoroughly enjoy his offerings and I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of his writing.

I noticed that there is a start-up company (Melodis) that may be addressing some of the limitations of earlier voice-recognition systems. My (admittedly shallow) understanding is that while the state of the art prior to Melodis converts speech to text, Melodis' Dialer accepts the sound directly with no need to convert the sound signal data to text.

I would be very interested in getting Steve's take on the Dialer application, especially with respect to the likelihood that it represents a breakthrough.
