Comments on: Just stop it already: Women do play video games

Don Reisinger is here to correct the same old stereotype. Believe it or not, women do play video games, and they might even be better than you.

Women may play games, but that does not mean they are good at them.

And just because specific games are marketed towards men, and men are the majority of consumers buying and playing it, that doesn't mean that men are any good at them either.

I've been an avid gamer since I was a child, and find it quite insulting when I tell a guy that I play games, and they think that since I'm a girl I must only play casual games, or that I'm rubbish at them. I don't know any guy that is as hardcore into RPGs as I am, and I have a tendency to play through Action/Adventure games like Castlevania and Devil May Cry much quicker than my male friends, and with more much ease as well.

Perhaps the girls you've met only pretend to be bad at games so you don't feel shameful that a chick kicked your ass?

Of course women play video games and more titles need to cater to this demographic. So I agree in principle with this article. However, I must say that this came off as a soap box rant written by one who is desperate to get laid.

Men do control the industry. When game developers see developing games targeting adult women as a way to possibly make money we will see a shift. Women might play more video games now, but it is still men who are running out to BUY video games.

Still,it does show men are more into games than men, probably because of aggression and gaming.

I know a few women playing video games, but the fact is,I most of the time beat them, but I probably play more often, and I'm not here to smudge it around and say women are the best, they are equal to men as gamers, and shouldn't be said worse or better.

My Wife LOVES Guitar Hero Three, being a real guitarist she is actually very good at it.

For anyone who thinks girls don't play video games, they should come and see my daughter and her friends in the middle of their all night game marathons. My daughter has beaten the pants off of many a boy in Guitar Hero III.

This is another example of corporate America going for the "easy" sterotypical sale, and missing the bigger picture.

I agree that women do play video games, and that women are a large audience that is being missed by many game developers. However, you stated that games like GTA are not designed just for men. I disagree. I think that games like GTA are design spefically with men in mind, and that its the game developers responsibility to design a game that's not geared towards one gender group. It would not hurt any of these story lines or game play to change the gender of the player character, or the non-player characters they interact with.

I completely agree that there is a serious lack of female perspective in the world of mainstream computer game reviews. Completely irritated with this phenomenon I started my own site

I?m a girl and clearly I have a different perspective. Maybe someone else would benefit from my insights. Thus http://www.TokenFemaleGamer.com was born.

Hopefully the mainstream media and the development houses will catch up soon, because like Don Reisinger says, there are a bunch of us out there and we aren't going away.

Just stop saying that women play video games already.

Sure, they do. Of course. But the number that play hardcore shooters and action games are slim pickings. Sure, a LOT of women play casual games, and a large amount play sim/fantasy games, and often the MMOs as well. I don't claim to know the reason, but that's how it is. I find that in more hardcore games, like for instance Gears of War, the amount of women isn't even close to 40%. Like, 5% tops? Online at least. It's very scarce, which I find unfortunate, but the sad truth.

I agree with Mike112, above. The writer of this article is totally wrong. He should log into Halo 3 and see for himself - finding a women player is a very rare thing. So if women are playing video games, very, very few are playing them online, at least where Halo 3 is concerned.

I am a 22 year old female, I own four xboxes, two xbox 360s, a Wii, PS2, PS3, Nintendo DS, Gamecube, and N64. I play all kinds of games, Oblivion, Rock Band, Zelda, Halo 1,2,3, Kingdom Hearts, Gears of War, Guitar Hero, Bioshock, Fable, Goldeneye, etc. I am tired of the stereotypical comments I get from guys on XBL or at the videogame tournaments I compete at (check out www.mlgpro.com). Also, I didn't start gaming from a boyfriend or guy friend like one guy commented. I met my husband at a halo tournament and he was my first boyfriend to play videogames. My parents took my regular nintendo away from me when I was 5 because I played too much. And no I am not fat and I don't eat twinkies all day like the 90% of guys I beat on XBL like to say. Also, the guy above says that he's never ran into a girl on Halo, well most of the time we won't talk when getting matched up with randoms because we get insulted and called names. Also, I know hundreds of girls who not only play Halo but compete at Halo tournaments.
