Xbox 360 dominance
by japanga September 27, 2007 1:38 AM PDT
For Microsoft to really grab the sales goal of game consoles, Xbox 360 must 1. lower the price point of each unit below cost. 2. ensure that quality components are manufactured in each unit and the warranty is backed up for five years, and 3. better game titles are designed. To make it worthy to own, origination fees to Xbox Live website should be free so that everyone can play. It would be nice if Microsoft can figure out a way for PC games can be played on the Xbox 360 units as well.

Oh my god, a C|net 360 fanboy blogger

So let me get this straight, just because some Fruitloop Motocross dude with a machine gun shooting up aliens comes out for the xbox360, The PS3 is dead for good? How long as the Xbox360 been out? 2 years? the PS3 was out for 1 year. The ps2 lasted what 7? hell it's still living. The PS3 is not "dead" You can talk smack when Sony announces it's taken Sega's route or by 2013ish PS3 sales are still lacking but to call the PS3 out now is like calling Mike Tyson out in the first round against some chump. From this post you seem like a typical Halo3 ass kissing praiser. Get a grip, Halo3 offers nothing new, NOTHING! Forge isn't even a map editor yet people treat it as if Jesus himself coded it special for Halo. It's media posts like these that console flame wars. Thanks to you I'll have to suffer through "ZOMG XBOX360 IZ THE SHIZZ HALO3ROXLOL!" You make the internet suck.

Seriouslly?
Fanboy a little?
Halo 3 like many others have said is just a cookie cutter FPS ZOMGZ frag fest w00t yay. This appeals to the drunk college kid, 12 y/o's, and retarted internet bloggers...there are a lot of you loosers out there hence the huge sales. As long as Microsoft keeps catering to you people they should fair pretty well.

On the side of Nintendo, not only did you completely shut them down, you didn't even do any research. Nintendo has two HUGE heavy hitters coming out in the next two months of October and November.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Super Mario Galaxy

Both WIDELY anticipated follow ups to their predecessors. Brawl being the follow up to the hugely successful Melee on GC, and Super Mario Galaxy the long rumored and speculated 'Mario 128', true follow up to Mario 64.
Not to mention numerous 3rd party outings that are sure to move consoles.

Someone tell me what Microsoft has coming after Halo 3 for this year? Just wondering.

PS. Try to go out and find a Wii console at any store near you within a 20 mile radius..Good luck. Demand is far excceeding the supply right now hence the drop in sales. Hopefully Nintendo does step it up. Now try to go out and find me a 360...yeah they're sittin on the shelves not flying off anytime soon. Those who want a Wii, most still don't have one.

ST*U and L2P

I know a bunch of people that got a XBOX strictly for Halo. And thats what they stuck with. Halo. They didn't go buy a bunch of other games for the thing.

To imply that the Wii doesn't have a good software library is retarded. Do I need to list em off?

Look...its obvious this guy just wanted to get some people to read his little blog ;) but seriously....cmon man...you really think the Wii's sales will continue to slide? You're a dope if you do. The Wii does and will continue to dominate.

He compares the software that is "just now" getting released to the software of two consoles that have barely been out for 1 year. If thats the case, the PS1 is better than the PS3 and Xbox360 because it sold way more software than any of those systems have.

You should compare the Wii's current software to the Xbox360's software from last year. That would be a fair comparison. Anyway, lets ask this moron what he thinks after Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart have been released. Those are going to be blockbuster titles.

Besides, the best game in the world doesn't mean crap if your console spends more time in repair than it does in your living room.

Why your wrong
by EvilIA September 27, 2007 8:22 AM PDT
Your start out with incorrect facts.

NPD does not get information from Microsoft at all. Period. Wikipedia is not a quotable reference in academia. NPD gets it's data from the Point of Sale systems at retailers and online merchants. It has nothing to do with Microsoft and it's shipping numbers.

Its online feature is by far the most mature. Thats why games like Madden and Halo 3 flew off the shelf.

As much as Micro$oft would like to hype Halo 3 as the "Killer-app" that makes every person in the world run out and buy an x-box360, I just don't think it will. Are the graphics good? Absolutely! Does it play well? Yes, both in single-player and online, it IS a fun game.

So will the game sell? Of course! 1.25 million pre-sold copies attests to that. But the question here is will it sell consoles???

Honestly, is it REALLY that much better than Halo 2? Any one who has ANY objectivity left about this issue and not fallen hook, line and sinker for Micro$oft's media blitz will agree that it just isn't worth spending over $300 (or upwards of $500, depending on the configuration of the console and version of the game).

No way. No how. Period!

I've heard that all said about PSX, PS2, and now PS3. The most advance piece of technology to ever enter a Living Room. First off it has not one, not two, but three chips so advanced that the co-developer of one has yet to use it in their own HDTV's (Super Companion chip teams w/Cell BE). Each of these chips are prepared for nexgen of tomorrow. With full IPv6, Internet 2, 1200+ pin connectivity and bandwidth not yet utilized or accounted for in this generation. No device yet in consumer hands has low level coded hardware with even one chip with 1200+pins, let alone 3 chips with 1200+pin connectivety. The Cell BE processor (you ignorant piece of shizt) is the first processor to cross over into the security of tomorrow's world with IBM's Cell Security. The first Chip in the organic thought world of silicone/earth in world to power us for this Century!

The PS3 is just now sitting up in bed, and you have the gall/nerve to proclaim it dead. I love to put paid reprobates lost in the hype and blindness of M$'s Dollar$ of Wickedness, Studity and make a buck at any cost mentality, in their place. Here we have a company with the Un-wonderful Warthog Xbox 3fixme $Billion Dollar ERROR 71 Heat Hog, with a full year head start getting beat by a Cracker Jack's Prize Wii in under a year. Then you have the nerve to claim a giant of major proportions for the REAL NexGen, is late getting out of bed and is actually dead. Well don't look now you pompous imbecile, but when Sony finishes getting it's ducks all up in a row and the IPv6 and Internet 2 is here, the PS3 will be the ONLY ONE standing! Why? Because they are the only ones prepared for it!

Meanwhile Cracker Jacks Prize Wii is business insuring the Xbox 3fixme BDE-71 (billion dollar error 71) finds it's rightful place as Dreamcast 2!

I'm not going to explain what the Cell BE processor will mean to this Century of Technology, but if you ask NSA, DOD, NASA, DOE about their Hybrid Super Computers you'll find Cell BE! Security? No chip has even come close to the Security level of the Cell in PS3. Speed? No chip has been clocked as high as the Cell BE Multi-Core and no other chip is capable of intelligently clocking itself up to 6ghz as is the Cell in PS3. Yes PS3 can clock itself just as it does in Stanford University's FOLDING@HOME (Which just topped 1 full PFLOP (1 Quadrillion calculations per second = 1,000,000,000,000,000cps).

PS3 is the ONLY single home computing device capable of Real Time Ray Tracing by itself. We are just beginning to see and grasp the possibilities of the PS3 in games let alone what the Cell BE will do for this entire Century of Technology, and you have the asinine pomposity to claim PS3 as DEAD!

It's going to be real funny when in history we look back on this bombastically and moronically created simpleton blog and see the light of just how deplorable and stupid it really is! ;)

Oh.... yeah..... Halo? Mwaa... ha... ha... LOLz
by eye2fun September 27, 2007 11:47 AM PDT
Halo a great game? Maybe.... Halo 2? ..don't think so (same problem no story). Halo 3? NOT even close!

It has some nice points like very good AI, nice new weapons and vehicles. Some pretty new cut scenes with the lamest voice acting on the planet. Just finished it in record time for a Halo game ever, on normal. The in game graphics are not even close to nexgen and can't even touch Gears of War. It should be renamed to POLYGON CITY.... Land of the Straight Line and Narrow 3-D less textures! Looks like Decals on my little brother's tricycle. 3-D??? If that's 3-D in game we are in sad shape for this generation of games. At least on the Xbox 3fixme BDE-71 (M$ insider code for their Dreamcast Console).

Far better games on this console than this, to claim make or break, do or die game, just to make it somehow look like the savior of all mankind. er.... is that all boy kind. ...hummm ...M=mature .....who do we see playing it online? 8 to 12 year olds using language I was never allowed to use in the military!

No thanks Halo is what is Dead! ...or at least it should be!!! ;)
correct me if I am wrong

But are you saying that the 360 and the Wii do not have IPv6?

I have heard about IPv6 within the past year or two, but never knew how important it is that devices support it, until this past week. I did some research and all I can find is that the PS3 supports IPv6, but from that research I found out that the Japaneses are making almost every device IPv6 compatible (the Wii is a Japanese product).
This is one way to attract hits to your blog...

[According to The NPD Group, Nintendo Wii sales dropped 5 percent from July, while the Xbox 360, with 277,000 units sold, witnessed a sales increase of 63 percent from July. To round it out, the abysmal Playstation 3 sold just 131,000 units--a drop of nearly 18 percent.

Sure, the Nintendo Wii is doing well and it continues to sell better than the competition, but the main reason the Xbox 360 did so well last month was its software.]

Two things here, so-called professional:

1) I assume the reason you neglected to mention the actual numbers for the Wii console is simple forgetfulness and not because the measly 5% drop in sales still put them at over 400,000 consoles for the month.

2) The main reason Xbox 360 did so well last month was not because of the software. While Madden and Bioshock are great games, the 360 also had a PRICE DROP...I'm no "professional" business analyst, but I'm pretty sure that had something to do with the sales increase.

Halo 3 has already set a bunch of pre-order records and earned Bill Gates and co. even more piles of money. But Halo 3 will sell to the exact same people who bought Halo 2 and the original. It's not going to drastically alter the fate of the 360 one way or the other. The console will do terrible in Japan, hold it's own in Europe and N. America, and try to stave off the PS3 as the "hard-core" gamer's console of choice while the Wii laps them both and earns Nintendo even more cash for the next couple years.

Are you living in the moon???
by ZhenS777 September 27, 2007 12:52 PM PDT
You must be out of your mind to lay such claims that the PS3 is under water. Yes Halo 3 will bring lots of money in, but it takes more than a good quater in sales to claim yourself king....Do you actually think that a person will play this game forever and ever. Sure there are some fanatics who will play the game more than once, but if I know my hardcore gamers, they live for the next game that will blow their mind away (it's like an addiction).Today, Halo 3 is number one tomorrow will be a different story.
PS3 has had a slow start and it might not be an overnight success but the battle is far from over. You show your ignorance when you only think of today. The PS3 has such degree of advanced technology that its future is almost guaranteed.
I disagree when you say that it is all about software....your game can only go as far as your hardware and I'm sorry to say, xbox360 has gotten as far as it can go with its current console. Sure, the games PS3 has are not the greatest in gaming history, but they have shown only a glimpse of what this console is capable of....and let me tell you, it is only the beginning.
Its sad to see some people so uneducated in the ways of technology and so uninterested in being part of one of the most innovative piece of machinery of its time....can xbox claim that? I don't think so and your an idiot for not seen past your nose.

A slightly calmer response
by MiltoxB September 27, 2007 5:39 PM PDT
A lot of you are really freaking out and bashing the guy. He's wrong that the PS3 is dead sure. But the 360 isn't just about Halo 3. I'm looking forward to Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden 2(360 exclusive), Assassin's Creed (I have both the 360 and the PS3 so I'll see which version is better and get it), Too Human, and quite a few other games that I can't recall.
Similarly I'm waiting for plenty of good titles for the PS3.

But to those that really think the PS3 is that much better than the 360, the PS3 may be powerful computationally, but graphically its a bit weaker than the 360. The chip in the PS3 is a derivative of the Nvidia 7K series chips, and the 360 is a derivative of the ATI 1K Series which was just slightly superior. And sure it seems like a lot of people are getting problems with their 360s and are raving about their problems, but I know plenty of people who have no such problems. Problem is you see the people angry with the 360 usually posting on forums and don't see the good side (My 360 has worked fine since launch day...)

PS3 has great potential (not as exaggerated as some of the PS3 fanboys started spewing) but the games just aren't here yet. Be patient and it'll work out.

The kid that pointed out the whole Quadrillion Calculation bit probably didn't realize that Folding @ Home is a distributed computing application that works through any computer that is participating (and PS3's if they participate). That value is a compilation of all the power from each of those computers, basically making a supercomputer by combining inexpensive individual computers.
Besides, cell is actually finding competition from arrays of Graphics cards as a supercomputing solution. Graphics cards are more specialized for mathematical computations and a lot less expensive.

No need to exaggerate and blow the PS3 out of proportion by exaggerating about it. Its a good system, just not as great as Marketing will have you believe (sound similar to any marketing strategy for a particular product from the competition...)

Finally...

Halo 3 is a good game. No need to hate on it because you hate what everyone else likes. People should judge based on their own experience with things, not opinions. Sure its pretty much the same ol', same ol' shooter. But it has a story that should be judged on its own without comparing to other games. If it's fun, then that's all that matters.

Learn to think for yourself, and realize other people have opinions that are just as valid as yours (although they may not be properly justified.) Respect other people's opinions, even if you feel like they are wrong.

I disagree with a lot of the Author of this article, since his article was flawed by being so biased, but its his right to say what he wants.

================================================
Philosophy Cliff Notes:

1) Truth is Relative
2) Truth is Absolute

I believe the first is true. Otherwise people wouldn't fight so much over what they believe, or people would see the error of their ways, and just admit they were wrong.

Geeks refuse to see beyond their processors
by Doinitin Style September 28, 2007 12:24 PM PDT
Listen, the reason PS3 won't do well has very little to do with computing capacity. Yes the PS3 processor is cool. 99% of gamers don't care. I repeat, they don't care what NASA is looking at. They care who Take Two, EA, etc. are looking at. With the gap widening between 360 and ps3 ownership, developers are going to concentrate more on the 360. Thus more games are going to be developed for the 360, and more people will go out and buy it. It's a cycle that sony enjoyed the last generation. Add to that Microsoft's willingness to buy the exclusivity of big games, and MS will roll over PS3.

Basically Sony bet on spending their yen on reducing the cost of a supercomputer instead of developing exclusive software for it. They bet wrong. The commitment to the cell processor and blue ray might have cost them a generation of gamers.

It doesn't matter how big your games are...
by ZhenS777 September 28, 2007 2:24 PM PDT
I'm a big PS3 fan and I find that the rivalry between us and the xbox fans is laughable...no matter what both sides throw at each other, it still doesn't change the fact that Wii is more popular. Sure, the Wii cannot claim a superior hardware(ps3) or big games (xbox) but we are missing the point. They don't have all of that and they are still leading the market in console sales...go figure. Sorry Xbox, it seems that no matter how many great games you get, it won't matter because those games are great here but in Japan they are not so popular....and guess what, it is Japan that is making the difference on Wii sales.....So it really comes down to two things: 1)great marketing and 2)appeal to the right demographic.....

Wait... What? Is this article for real?
by mrgspot586 September 28, 2007 5:58 PM PDT
Don Reisinger, I appreciate your opinion (kind of), but please (grasps hair with both hands), if you're going to share your thoughts and opinions on subject matter, please please PLEASE know something about the subject you're talking about.

It's very obvious from this article that you are not a gamer. Or, you are at least new to gaming. I hope it's the latter. Because it hurts me to see gamers who think they're gamers talk like this. Do your research next time. Follow gaming news a little more before you write a ridiculous article like this. This article is very inaccurate. I'm just a little too blown away by the absurdity of it right now.

Garbage. It sickens me. Not the author... but the crap that he's dishing out.

Just a note to gamers, new or vets: I'm not a fanboy. I judge games and consoles on their own individual strengths and weaknesses. PS3, 360 and Wii are all great systems and cater towards their own audience. Some appeal to more than others. If you're new to gaming, don't believe a word of this crap. Halo 3 is a great game, go buy it. Wii has phenomenal games, do your research. PS3 has great games too (and now to end my post I will be just a little hypocritical but that's okay because I'm a vet gamer and I will say that PS3 sucks... wink wink). But all joking aside, it's got some good stuff. Or it will. Give it a year. They're coming.

Xbox 360 ... Is the winner
by Ghost 117 September 29, 2007 11:05 AM PDT
The Nintendo Wii is innovative but it just for the less than casual gamers like pre-schoolers and grandparents once thats out of the way nobody will buy it. Unlike the Xbox 360 which is a casual console which delivers great games, great online service, and next generation harware. The PS3 is just for the washed out hardcore Sony fans since the games library of exclusives is weak and most of them are now coming to the Xbox 360 the online service is horrid. Now the Xbox 360 has a wide variety of game from ultra hardcore shooters like Gears of War or F.E.A.R to more casual shooters like Call of Duty 2 or Halo 3. For even less casual gaming you can pick up Viva Pinata or download an arcade game like Pacman. There something for everyone. And it seems to me almost everyone loves the casual shooters like Halo 3 or racing games like PGR3. You'll see the Xbox 360 will be on top.
