Comments on: PS3 dominance in three to five years

Sony will dominate the video game industry in three to five years, according to the former president of Sony Europe. Don Reisinger wonders why Sony doesn't realize that's a little too late.

the size of the blu-ray goes up to 50GB(dual layer) so the more space the BR has, the more better the game is because of increased features, 15% graphics improved in game. when ps2 was released most games size were 1GB(hotwheels world race for example) and then now 2009 some ps2 games are between 4GB and 5GB. so ps3 will probably go up to 40GB and 50GB...or if new blu-ray go higher.

FACT-killzone 2 graphics only possible on ps3

my opinion is that it killzone 2 can be on xbx360(but never will and probably the stupidest thing someone will do.) but graphics will be decreased by 40%(that is alot). this is why ps3 blu-ray can hold heaps of data/features and graphics. and can last very long untill ps4.

xbox uses an dvd and some optional HD-dvd. single layer -15gb. double layer - 30gb HD-DVD costs around US$200. so if u add the price of an xb360 and hddvd. you can the price of the ps3 appox.

READ THIS LINK BELOW. "Or does it mean that the PS3 version of the game will be downgraded in order to accommodate the Xbox 360 version?" (in the link)...so basically IF THIS happens its the xboxs fault that ps3 game quality will need to be downgraded.

and people saying xbox has more games....so? THATS JUST BECAUSE IT WAS RELEASED EARLIER ALONG WITH FEW GAMES TO START WITH AHEAD OF PS3. and xbox sales are high..um maybe because you can now chip them to burn/copy games. MORE people prefer this and decide to buy 360

PS3 IS BETTER THE PRICE IS GOOD AND ITS WORTH IT SO STOP COMPLAINING.

I have been into games a number of years and moved from the Commodore Amiga to PC when Amiga was no longer produced. Games were always better, in my opinion, on computers.

I got a Wii when it was released for the "family" games capability at which it is good but for more serious gaming this console is limited so I continued to use the PC for these.

I then got a 360 and this is a great system with a good on-line capability but I do grudge paying monthly fees for the live ability. Once I got used to the contrlloer as a replacement for the PC keyboard/mouse combination I reduced my gaming on the PC considerably. the COD games being my favorites.

I got a PS3 at Xmas 08 and it too is a superb games system. MGS, Uncharted and recently Killzone2 are outstanding games. Killzone, once you are into the online play is very addictive and much better than anything I played on 360 including COD etc.

At the end of the day you pay your money and you take your choice each of these are good systems but for me the all round value of the PS3 comes with the media capabilities. Apart from it being Blue Ray you can stream many formats, music , photo, vieo including DivX, straight from yur PC to the PS3 with no real problems or need for conversion which is lacking on 360.

You should enjoy each of them on their own merits and I will be keeping all 3.

16 years ago, I had the same argument with my buddies around the recess lunch table: Turbo Graphix 16 is better! No, the Genesis is better! No, Super Nintendo is better!

My friends mostly own all three consoles.

But, seriously, the PS3 is better. :)

Just to let you know for the sony fans here cnet is dissing 360. because for thoes of you who dont know microsoft owns them.by the way microsoft dont want you to know about something sony has that 360 doesnt that will make it last alot longer than 360 cell broadband. unlike your normal cpu in pc or even core 2 duo or quad extreame even .the cpu has eight cells. not 4 max like pc. thats right 8 and it can reach just over 30ghz and has built in dynamics system (AKA) PHYSICS ENGINE so takes stress from alot vga power . heres few links to explain but it is in depth

Take a look at Sony's possible E3 lineup this year. Uncharted 2, White Knight, Ratchet and Clank, MAG, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, DC Online, Heavy Rain, Quantum Theory, etc. They still haven't announced Team ICO and the new Personna, along with others.

Sony's first party studio advantage has already propelled the console farther than it's competitors. In comparison M$ only has Allan Wake and a 3 hour Halo expansion. Timed exclusives and exclusive DLC can only go so far.

The PS3 may have fewer games, but it has higher quality games. Compare percentages of high ratings and low ratings on all 3 systems:

wii & ps3: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/04/08/edge-analyzes-wii-ps3-review-scores/
xbox360: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/18/edge-asks-how-good-are-xbox-games-really/

The PS3 has a higher percentage of good games and a lower percentage of bad games than both other systems. If they keep that up, eventually they'll hit a point of game saturation that will finally appeal to people. Right now, it still feels like, "Are there any games on the PS3?" The answer is obviously yes, but if you're a a niche gamer (only like 1 genre), your choices are limited since its gaming library is smaller. However, soon, even those niche gamers will have enough games to entertain them.

I have no problem seeing the prediction as a possibility. I'm not saying its guaranteed or even more likely, but I wouldn't be surprised.

This comment is to Don Reisinger. Don I don't mean this to be rude or anything but it seems like most of the video game reporters and yourself included forget that the Xbox 360 arrived in retailers a full year ahead of its competition. Also take in the fact that some Xbox 360 owners have bought replacement systems instead of sending it in for warranty repair. Now you take their total sales and divide it by the number of years you see that Sony is on par with the Xbox 360 in terms of console sold per year. The Wii is great for the family and great for getting non gamers into gaming, but once the Wii fad wears out and non gamers are turned into gamers these Wii owners will want to buy a PS3 or 360 to play games not found on the Wii. Are the Wii and 360 more affordable? Yes! But it doesn't mean that it has the better value. The Wii is just an overpriced Gamecube and buying the Xbox 360 Arcade is just a rip off because you will spend more money upgrading it to the full 360 experience. Exclusive from 3rd party developers are good until they go multi-platform but it's the 1st party games that are system sellers. This year Sony has games like God of War 3, Uncharted 2, and MAG that will help it to lessen the gap in hardware sales. If Sony decides to have a PS3 price cut this console war is not yet over.

The Wii is NOT an overpriced gamecube. The system specs for the Wii are much better. I keep hearing this from uneducated fanboys.

Give up Sony... The PS3 is a phenomenal failure. I know the system has its fans but it tried to be all things to all people and forgot that people wanted a GAMING system. Take a look at console history... every expensive system that has ever been release has been a FAILURE. Cut your loses now and start designing an AFFORDABLE PS4... Sony has forgotten what made the PS1 and PS2 such a success. People want a fun gaming system, that's why Sony is dead last in this generation of consoles.

i read the same crap over and over again. I have a 360 and PS3. I play the PS3 more often. Why? Because thats what i like. No one can tell me which one is better i like what i like and you can play whichever system you want. Im not gonna talk about the wii because it is a totally difeerent type system when compared to the 360 and ps3. Its a party system meant to have fune with friends young or old. Hardcore gamers will not be caught playing a wii by themselves. Now 360 fan boy always scream about the same damn things. The PS3 sucks because it costs too much and it has crappy games. First off it's like saying a lamborghini is a crappy car cause it costs too much. Really? come on. Second if the PS3 games suck them why is microsoft trying so hard to take games that first appeard on the Playstation. There bigest announcements for the past 2 E#'s was the GTA IV was coming to the 360 and then last year ther closing moment for there conference was to say that FF XIII was cming to the 360 aswell. ANd that is only 2 games from a long list of games that 360 seems to think are good enough to bring to thier system. And if i remember correctly they sold quite nicely. So if you like the 360 good for you. Shut your mouth and play your games. Why waste your time nd others just so you can bad mouth the PS3. Does MS reimberse you or give stock options, no.

PS. It doesnt matter about the system it matters about the players. If they every have mulptiplatform online gameing. So PS3 owners gcould play 360 owners in a game of madden that would be the highlight for all gamers. You need to understand that competition between systems is better for us as gamers. So for all those waiting for the PS3 to go under - first of all it wont -second if it did then 360 games would turn to crap and MS will kill you all with prices. If they are the only one out there they can dohatever they want. AKA monoploy. And MS has a track record of charging alot for everything.

The author's definition of "dominance" is laughable. According to his logic, the PS2 is the most "dominant" console available today, and the Xbox 360 will have to sell over 100 million units to catch up. Kind of puts things into perspective, doesn't it?

I have to agree with another poster, why do I care which sells more? I like the PS3 because it has a Blu-ray player and an excellent selection of games. And a lot of very interesting games coming out this year. But I guess I'm supposed to like the Xbox better, with its red rings of death and no Blu-ray player- because it sells more? I don't think so.

I do think that this claim that it will overtake in 3-5 years is a bit of odd news. The PS3 is the best system I have ever had, I arguably the best system around (not sales-wise, however). It deserves to do very well, but it has been having a very hard time.
I feel that the PS3 has the best options and the best capabilities, although there are more games on the 360, and many of them are exclusives that I wouldn't mind playing. On the other hand, the PS3 also has exclusives that I love playing all the time (Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, LittleBIG Planet, etc.). I hope that the PS3 becomes more profitable in less than 3-5 years, but as for dominance, well they have a long way to go and I doubt they will really make it despite what I would like.

The PS3 is done and so is Sony's run at being the 800lb Gorrilla in the Video game world. They had a good run but anyone who has been watching this business the last 30+ years knows that all it takes is one misstep and you're done. Sony got lucky with the PS1 because both Sega & Nintendo dropped the ball. They caught another break when Sega just didn't have the cash to fight with PS2. That let the PS2 run uncontested until the original XBOX was released. Considering that this Console cycle was the 1st one that Sony had real competition it's no surprise they got spanked. The PS2 coasted to victory and Sony figured they were invincible. They mishandled online and misread the market place. The result of their misreading is the ps3. A dysfunctional marriage of media player and game machine that cost to much for the player as well as the developer. Sony can now only pray that Blue Ray survives because they have sacrificed the cash cow that was the PlayStation Franchise for Blue Ray license fees in the future. The longer it takes BluRay to usurp DVD the worse off Sony will be. The PS3 may be around in 5yrs but that may be because Sony won't be releasing anymore Video game consoles and could phasing itself out of the business.

Wow, there is a lot of Sony hate floating around. First let me say I own 2 PS3s and an XBOX360. I really enjoy both systems. That said, the XBOX is a pain. I love hardware. I bought my XBOX for $300. I had to buy a wireless card for another $100. The hard drive is small and it cost me another $100 to add a hard drive. I then had to subscribe to Xbox live, another $50. My netflix does look good though. My PS3 cost me $400 for the first one. It as an 80g drive and wireless. The online play is free. I enjoyed it so much I bought a second machine, non-backward compatible, for $300. It too was wireless and has free online. I can add any SATA 3.5 inch drive and boot the system up and the drive is a go. For all those saying the PS3 is too expensive, I got top of the heap hardware from Sony and a piece meal system from Microsoft. Every time I think about what I got for my money I don't understand why people don't buy more PS3s. It is actually cheaper than an XBOX. If only it streamed Netflix I would sell my XBOX.

I find all the fan boys nonsense... well nonesnse.

I remember all to well my contemplation when i was buying a system:

This system has all the games and the hardware is good enough to continue for several years before the games outgrow the system. It's what most "hardcore" gamers are playing right now and is "winning" the current gen gaming system war.

That system is by far the better hardware, but the games are still lacking. If you like to play some types of games it's probably ok, but the other has more of a community and games. Of course, as time passes this system will probably outlast the others and has great potential.

Those systems were the Xbox and PS2. Amazing how things have changed... right? The same rhetoric that was used to bash or uphold the last system are simply being rinsed off and thrown back.

Learn from history. Software and innovation and not hardware have pretty much won every console war i can think of from Atari/intellivision to today. why should this gen be any different. Nintendo proved it again.

I own a wii and 360 but easily yield that PS3 is the most advanced overall hardware. That said, at the rate things are going, blueray (or possibly any solid media) probably aren't going to win any console war ever again. The next "gen" consoles are arriving and they are all broadband all the time. Only MS seemed to notice these consoles with full game downloads so i tip my hat at this point to thier looking ahead. That said i utilize both my systems and my pc. I think that "the real thing" may actually win the next console war as people start to move back to real play, short of that i think that the "casual gamer" is likely to be a new staple on the market...

for what it's worth
