Comments on: Nintendo: DSi is no iPod rival

Will Nintendo's upcoming Wi-Fi game device be a viable competitor to Apple's iPod Touch? The notion is ridiculous, expresses Nintendo chief Satoru Iwata.

This is one battle Apple would surely loose. Apple's iPhone and iPod are great at what they do--Apps on iPhone(does anyone even use this for calling?), and Music on the ipod. But gaming is Nintendo's forte, and as soo many in the past have come to realize, the world of gaming is a one horse town and Nintendo is the sheriff.

its kinda obvious its meant to be more comparable to the psp as far as feature set goes i maybe wrong and i could see how some might think this is an insane statement but the psp is starting gain mor ground and this is just to make sure that it doesent surpass the ds in sales.

What the DSi is trying to do is to "compete" with the iPod Touch (and psp for that matter) as Wii "competes" with the 360 and PS3. It is trying to go beyond the traditional market and tries to appeal to a broader audience than the traditional gaming/iPod market, meaning young children as well as seniors. Just looking at some of the current DS's games*. Even though I haven't bought a Nintendo product since the original Gameboy Advance, I applaud Nintendo's move as an investor. Besides high-tech gaming consoles can never truly compete with the ever-improving PC.

*if you consider cooking and doing math problems gaming.
