Name one current "standard" that's been "pioneered" by apple that doesn't have a counterpart that is MORE popular.
Portable music players? Not pioneered by apple
Firewire? USB is far more pervasive (and with usb3... will be INCREDIBLY faster)
Optical drives? Nope, not apple.
BluRay, DVD, flash drives, digital cameras, cell phones.. all not apple.
I had a multitouch cell phone that played music (mp3) and could surf the web 3 years before the iphone came out.
I had a 3g version 3 years before the iphone3g came out too..
Apple even at one point was saying they didn't think "3g" was important...
But then again, apple was also saying that the G5 processors were more powerful than intel "core" processors as recently as two months before they decided to start using them.
Remember the fiasco about apple claiming to have the worlds fastest computer? The apple ads were banned for false advertising.
For the record, the coreduo was released on January 5th, 2006.

- If they continue to make money selling Mac OS X on Macs, I don't see why they would change that.
