Microsoft announced the follow-up to Halo 3 and Don Reisinger thinks it's a mistake. But will Microsoft agree with his logic?

honestly, i think alot of people are tired of the master cheif and his role and it seems from all the different things they talk about in the game and what you can read in the guide books... makes you think about what is happening elsewhere. Thats why Halo: Recon is going to be a really good game becuase its a different hero and the gameplay is going to be alot different its not going to be like the other games and its going to make the franchise alot better. Halo Wars is going to do the same cause everyone is tired of the rush in and kill gameplay.

Where have you been the last ten years? Not only has the masterminds at Bungie saved the first-person genre by taking something that everyone enjoyed and perfecting it (basic 10 seconds of aiming and shooting something that dies or changes form when inquired with contact from our 1st perspective) but they attacked EVERYTHING concerning 1st person involvement. Interaction, animation, enviornment, voice acting, sound and music, graphics, and like you mentioned, storyline, etc; the list goes on...they didn't invent the wheel, they gave it steering, tires, and suspension. They set the bar so, sooooo high, that they even couldn't t top themselves with Halos' 2 and 3. They can get an "o.k." pass with those two games. This might be a case of you not really caring for fps'.(Just stabbing in the dark here-I could be wrong) Not everyone likes them, heck, at first, I didn't. There has been many a catalysts when it comes to the Halo universe. This series has CHANGED lives, literally.(I might be laying it on just a little extra, here...) The funny thing is as long as I've been playing games(29 years), I never thought that I would like one the best of all about a cyborg (master chief), going against hordes and legunes of enemies(flood, covenant, brutes, guiltyspark343, etc.,with an onboard, mobile artificial intelligence persona(cortana), with the help of the unsc........AND THE CHIEF BEING THE LAST OF HIS KIND..(I know, we hear that all the time)-all for mankind..(familiar, I know...) but still, it all comes together like no video game has ever graced. If you had all that mentioned, and all that achieved, wouldn't you make another game? Sure you would. They can't go wrong. They have achieved too much compassion from us. They KNOW how to pull our COMPELLING strings here, and then tie it in with ACTION, SUSSPENCE, and even some DRAMA! They are truly masterminds at bungie.

don or whatever is obviously not a gamer. he shows a large lack of knowledge about gaming and seems to be spouting many generalizations about video game franchises. i noticed the disclaimer and i realize he is just a blogger, but i also noticed that he writes about tech more so than games. cnet and this don guy should know that there is a difference. unfortunately my comment seems to be to late seeing as though you have had your new ass already torn. don should reconsider writing about games and cnet should make a clear distinction between a gamer and a tech blogger. i expected better. thank you.

sincerely,
Fenish (disappointed reader)

Thank you Matt I agree 100% with you. Don you have no clue what you are talking about. The only reason your probably say negative things about H3R is because you probably never played The Halo series except for the 1st one. Try the other Halo's instead of asking people.

"...and the gameplay couldn't quite compete with the first title."
Are you kidding me? It was barely different than the first title... it couldn't compete with *other current games*.

"Financially, it will probably behoove Microsoft to do so. But from a long-term perspective, will it do more damage than good?"
Damage? What damage? to Microsoft? They'll make their money - you explain that in the next paragraph... what does Microsoft care if they make a bundle on a game that sucks?

"Halo 3: Recon will sell out on too many levels."
Anything else you want to tell us about the future? Oh. You're not a psychic?

"but can't it see that if it goes to the well one too many times, it'll dry up eventually?"
Um, that's why there are people getting paid a bit more than you or I to decide when the well is dry...

"Then, in tandem with the release of the Xbox 360's follow-up, Microsoft should release a Halo title."
Yeah, because nothing lets a franchise retire at the top of its game like... releasing another title.

"Instead, I have a problem with Microsoft releasing it too early in a thinly-veiled attempt to make some quick cash."
Please don't buy the game then. And ask Microsoft for a job protecting the Halo franchise they don't seem to be able to manage.

CNET, articles like this are why I barely even look at your reviews anymore.

Sorry to say but I agree with Don on this one. This turns an epic game into something like Mario, or Sonic. I guess every counsel needs a mascot.
Also the original Halo was so great I still play it from time to time. Ask me if I play 2 or 3. <shake my head no> 2 and 3 felt to much like every other game out there trying to be a Halo killer.

BTW Metal Gear is going down the same path with MG5, but that?s for another time.
