for me it's a rat-race. I am charging a RAZR and trying to activate. Whichever happens first.

In case you are wondering, the RAZR battery is 2/3 full already

and people complained that Firefox3 had issues when it launched. You didn't have to pay for FF3, FF2.x still worked while you couldn't get FF3 and you could do this all from the comfort of your own home/office. Apple... shame on you!

Why rush out and buy this overpriced under-featured gadget?

Will the lemmings never learn?

Its retarded that this is even happening, they had months to get this stuff together. What were they thinking only few people would start wanting the download? The only version's that are working are the hacked ones. Why are the hackers able to get this **** to work and they arent able too?

b.baggins,
You are just completely wrong about this issue. Updating to 2.0 bricks your iPhone until the process is complete. Connecting to the iTunes server is part of the update. We are stuck at this part, and our phones are unusable (except to call 911) until the servers come back online.

Try not to be such an ignorant moron before posting.

It's now 12:06pm EST and my IPhone is still a brick. I'm still getting the error message that the network has timed out and uanble to connect to the ITunes store. You would think Apple would have geared up for this. Of course everyone that owns an original IPhone would download the 2.0 update this morning.

Why would it get better? If they could not handle east coast adult users, why would they be able to handle west coast adults, east coast teenagers, and (in 3h or so) west coast teenagers?

:)

I've been following this issue since the update first went live at 10am (EST) and I'm bummed that I haven't been able to update my iPhone yet. The real kicker is when I connected it and opened iTunes a few minutes ago -- I decided to take my chances -- it isn't even prompting me to download 2.0. It's saying the firmware version is up to date when it's only the 1.x.x.

I'm not spewing any venom towards Apple for the issue (servers get hammered enough and they fold, that's just how it is), but man, I'm disappointed.

Apple should have had the 1st gen & itouch people update a week earlier, and the 3G guys update today... How did the Apple guys not see this cluster*#$% coming??? "Brick Friday" I will probably get fired cause I have not taken any calls from my boss or my customers, because my shiny iphone "brick" doesn't do ANYTHING, but it sure looks cool!

Wow - Epic Fail. It's inexcusable that this happened. Apple should have very detailed statistics on just how much traffic this would be generating and should have been prepared - they've had enough time to plan for V2.0. If your infrastructure is designed smartly, you should easily be able to scale for peak demand times like this.

It's not like apple is a small company. If a video game server can handle **** better then this. Its sad they can't.

My phone is frozen (except for emergency calls only) due to the inability to access the store. Apple, unlike in the past, is sloppy and have let down hundreds of thousands of people. If they want to get in the sandbox with big business, such poor planning will certainly make most companies shy away from APPLE. If a company used iphone and all their employees' phones are down it would be devastating. APPLE, figure it out!

First I am a Mac Faithful.

Apple knows how many phones where sold.
Apple knows how many people are waiting for this update.
Apple picked this release date.

How can a company that is so innovative not put the basic infrastructure to support their user base. This just shows that Apple is not ready for the Enterprise. You cannot disable business users because you did not put enough servers online to support your customers. As much crap as I give Microsoft at least they have set the expectation that businesses should not use the latest software.

Haaaa, just short of 100min after I started trying and with the RAZR battery almost charged, I managed to get through to the itunes server. Syncing songs now :)

I still think that APPLE sucks big time on this one...

I have 27 iPhones in my company, (commercial HVAC service), and everyone of them is working.

I had the update downloaded this afternoon and after the installation, will not activate the phone. I now have a phone that i can not use. When I try to activate the phone, itune gives me an error that my connection to the Internet timed out, or that I don't have SSL3.0 or TSL 1.0 tuned on even though it is
