What about photos of family/frends?
by backgroundnoise June 5, 2006 1:02 PM PDT
I'm disappointed that the article made no mention of whether or not the machine can be used to view a photograph of a family-member or friend.

If someone were going to use this machine, I think that would be their first rather than reading news articles on news.com.com or taking virtual building walkthroughs! :)

There are cell phones that talk, and the iPod could talk if Apple would give it a voice interface.

Not to take away from this achievement! Lots of possibilities!

Qualifying Conditions for This Machine?

My 19 year old nephew is blind from labors disease and my 87 year old mother is virtually blind from macular degeneration. Must you have one good eye to take advantage of this new device?

Blind machine resembles a film projector
by inboxnews June 12, 2006 9:06 PM PDT
The machine resembles a film projector, and to someone with 20/20 vision its images are recognizable but littered with graphical elements resembling the Benday dots of a Roy Lichtenstein "comics panel" painting. According to Goldring, a low-vision person sees the image without seeing this visual clutter. http://www.inboxnews.com/story/402/
