I think I see another standards committee forming, IEEE 802.11m WiDie.

Wi-Die - why not Wi-Fly

Surely, Wi-Fly is a better name.

With all the problems they are having with the Mosquito Magnets I had heard that they were going out of business. I have one in my garage and all that it is good for is holding up the other end of the workbench!

Home implementation idea ?
by SimonMackay November 21, 2005 9:39 PM PST
Hi all!

What we need to do is shoehorn this idea in to a system that could work as an 802.11g WPA extension access point for existing home networks. This could certainly mean that we can certainly have full signal strength outside as well as keeping those pesky mozzies (mosquitoes) and blowies (blowflies) away from us and our food that we have outside.

These units could replace those UV-based bug-zappers and work hand in hand with the outdoor lifestyle which now includes taking that laptop computer outside during summer.

With regards,

Simon Mackay

Butter gun...

There's got to be a better way of killing off the mozzie larvae in their aquatic phase. If you introduce an oil film to lots of these ponds, won't that wipe out lots of frendly bugs along with the dread mozzies? Probably even killing mozzie larvae munchers.

vortex solution

Perhaps the best tool is the computer-directed "smoke ring" gun which can readily knock mosquitos out of the air at a distance...a servo picking up the characteristic sound of the wings can steer and shoot. The technology was actually studied for anti-aircraft purposes in WWII. Here's a crowd control version:

An insect version would be pocket sized.

nearly free mosuito trap out of a two liter bottle
by timjordan June 3, 2006 4:02 PM PDT
can you publish this article about making a mosquito trap with sugar,
yeast, and a two liter bottle? Since mosquitos stay withing a very
short distance from where they were born, you can quickly collapse the
mousquito population around your house. If a lot of people did this it would get rid of a lot of mosquitos
