Does "greenhouse gases"

really do harm? I think we need an agree upon answer to that question, before we spend trillions of dollars on this possible "fad".

I am all in favor of a clean enviroment and stopping things that can cause harm to our enviroment....if its really going to help us.

I am not in favor of trendy feal good efforts that cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ when we have very conflicting statements by the so called experts (Al Gore NOT included).

Even if it does not ...

Even if it does not save the world, it simply saves you money.

If you pay electricity 12 cents/KWh, each wasted watt is 1$/year for continuously running devices. A device (such as a TV) that have standby losses of 15W and a service lifetime of 8 years will cost you at least 120$ more (+future energy cost increases, + additional cooling cost) , without giving you anything in return compared to a properly designed device that would add 1$ to 3$ to the initial cost and leave 117$ in your pocket. And that's just one simple appliance.

Proof

Why is it that the same people who complain that we don't have 100% proof about global warming so we can't do anything are also the same people who were so gung-ho about invading Iraq because of Bush's supposed "proof" of weapons of mass destruction.

"The country can do the job with "tested approaches and high-potential emerging technologies," the study found, but doing the work "will require strong, coordinated, economywide action that begins in the near future." "

So basically we can accomplish this goal if we use technology that doesn't exist and get everyone in the country to do the same thing. This seems like a very tall order. I'm suprised McKinsey is proposing this as a viable approach.

Global Warming

If incentives were put into high albedo surface coatings (car paint, roofing tiles, architectural designing, ashphalt/concrete, landscaping decisions, train car tops/bus tops/truck tops, etc.) not only would it safe cooling costs it would also decrease white ligth reradiation as infrared radiation to which a CO2 laden atmosphere is opaque. This change over could be instituted with each future replacement/new structure/surface and as the replacement/new structure/surfaces are going to be constructed/manufactured/installed anyway it could be a simple add-on with very minimal or no cost.
