Well, that's all but gone now with Sony's apparent ability to show PS3 at E3 2005. Sony's PS3 will be here at least at the same time as Xbox Next/ 2, maybe even before.
So bang goes that advantage, if ever it really presented one for Msoft -- with the transference of their considerably smaller user base to yet another, with no backwards compatibility making for a smooth transition.
Now all they can do is do the lame pre-fight bluster of 'Yeah Adrienne, we gonna take them down!'
Well this is particularly ironic in light of Msoft joining the fight late and originally hoping to leave the fight earlier than the other contenders to fight again another day.
Hmmmm, and there's Sony calmly going the distance, and for a second time too!
1. The same technologies used to create PC games can be used to create XBox games.
2. XBox gamers and PC gamers can play together online.
More? Okay...
The processing power of XBox is greater.
The programming language/environment is simpler and easier to learn.
Don't let your hatred for MS blind you to the technological advantages they may hold. They've already got over 1 million subscribers (read: reoccuring revenues) for their online system. Balmer may be over optimistic, as the market might very well support 2 game systems, but to say that Microsoft has no advantage or hope is clearly an unenlightened statement.

Xbox has done remarkably well considering it entered a market completly dominated by Sony. And YES Linux is embedded in Xbox. But who cares...
At the end of the day, microsoft will never collapse due to the fact the more than 3 quarters of the world use MSOS, All this talk about Linuc dominating servers. woooopppiiddoooo the Home User is a far more important asset then any business.
Linux is always going to be a strong competitor but nothing more.
Im just sick of all the MS bashing, supported by all the Anti-Capitalist folk AKA glorified communists.
Just my strong views
Show me any product that Microsoft has done that has been anything but a rehash hack of existing technology and I'll prove you wrong. And so will anyone with the slightest insight in computer technology.
They took an existing language (BASIC) and made clones of it for other systems.
They bought a crappy CP/M clone from Seattle Computer and sold it as MS-DOS.
They discovered that Mac was the new way of doing things and made a substandard GUI.
And now, they have taken a PC clone, put all the bits in one box, and sell it as a console!
Aren't they just at the forefront of computer technology?

"I think frankly until we whip this security thing" - ooh, I love it when you get technical with me... Wait - maybe when the core of Microsoft isn't a horde of low wage college graduate hacks and you hire a few actual software engineers you'll whip it.
"some of the Google search stuff" - again the precise visionary mind lets us on the inside of technology...
"I can look at almost anything and tell you I see absolute growth possibilities." - That's our Steve Ballmer all right...
Not everyone can grow up to be CEO of the largest software corporation on earth and come off as a multi-billion dollar clown every time he opens his mouth.
- Ballmer is so entertaining :)

- I didn't realize how old the "bring some real innovation" phrase could be, until Ballmer yapped it for the trillionth time. Hm. Wait. It's actually as old as Microsoft itself. :) And they're still the #1 copycat of the world.
