An updated version of the official beta Microsoft stopped distributing this week is out there for downloading on several torrent sites.

Why don't Microsoft just ship the build officially to testers? Then it wouldn't be much of a problem being on torrent sites as it is free anyway.

It's only the x86 version that is available on torrent sites. Unfortunately, the x64 version is still MIA. Uh, at least that's what a friend tells me.

There's so much of "This build is faster than the previous one" and "Windows 7 is faster than XP" that, by the time Windows 7 reaches release candidate, it will be able to encode an hour of video into H.264 in 30 seconds on a 700MHz Celeron with 64 MiB of RAM. Well, not quite, but I have a hard time believing that Windows 7 is getting noticeably faster!

I agree! ive run both xp and win7 on virtual machine. xp is still faster. but win7 is a bit faster than vista! thats good 4 microsoft cause now people can actually upgrade to win7 from a vista machine. generally not possible when vista came out. (unless u had a really awesome xp machine or bought a new processor and more ram)

i was given a pre-build demo of windows 7 it has no sound but no use by date either. it supposed to be unstable , but its as stable as vista ( both keep telling me their not responding sometimes) works great on microsoft virtual pc. IT STILL LOOKS LIKE VISTA TO ME

I love Win 7. I first ran it in MS VirtualPc. I liked it so much,after 2 days of running it virtually,I actually (for the first time)partitioned my XP hard drive and installed Win 7 on my physical HD to optimize its potential.I don't regret it one bit.It has been flawless thus far. My XP was re-installed one week b4 Win 7(so they are both fresh)and Win 7 is just as fast,if not faster. I use it daily,but try not to install to many apps or build up too many files as it will eventually end.But if you're considering running it,do it.It is a beta,but for everyday use it is rock solid and pretty easy on the eyes,full of features,yet still fast. BTW..almost any app that is able to run on Vista will run on 7.

Comparing Windows 7 with Windows XP for its performance is so not right. They shouldn't compare XP with new Windows, its like comparing Windows to Linux, they're so different. Ok maybe not that much of a difference, but still. They shouldn't bring up topics of Windows XP being compared to new Windows, it will never be. XP is still THE superior OS to Windows.

Well, it may be for now because Windows 7 is still in beta. But have you used Windows 7 on a computer powerful enough to take advantage of Windows 7's features? I think XP is superior to Vista, but I think 7 is superior to both (and it's still only a beta, imagine when it's finalized).

Seriously, I've been quite impressed with the beta as well. I do hope the performance remains as good as it is at this point. If so, I'll be upgrading from XP Pro when the final product is released. I'll probably ditch 32 bit and go 64 bit at the same time. I skipped Vista because of performance issues, but the 7 beta feels as fast - if not a bit faster - than XP.

dear users.not as a test version windows7 comparable to XP and Vista.today formally suspended the main support XP,will continue as long minimal maintenance by 2014.i use win7 build 7077 and I am amazed by the speed and vision-has full support of DX 10,which allows you to play all the favorite games... success and much fun for all users !!!
