No "upgrades" from XP for me for a while...until my unsupported by Vista periferals die. Can't afford to throw out printers and scanners at this point.

I have a great Epson scanner I got at Fry`s years ago for a song...and it has worked great all these years under XP , but I will be dual-booting with "7" when it comes out.

Lets look at Apple's Leopard release. Was it actually sucessful or a flop like vista (not saying vista was, it was just portrayed like that)? Well there's no press about leopard since barely anyone uses it, so we really wouldn't know! But Leopard did the same things as vista, they just prettied up their interface to try to stay ahead of Vista, and they even copied vista's Aero for their top bar thing. I once even read an article saying that Apple users had to Downgrade to the older OS because Leopard wasn't compatable. Yet, apple still talks like their OS will be perfect. My high school teacher even had to downgrade his apple laptop to make it work with our apple school network. So Leopard was a flop too, in those terms, just as people said vista was.

I'm using Windows 7 right now to type this, and it's extremely faster when booting up. Very stable, hasn't crashed yet, and it's only a beta! I used Vista before this, and Vista's great too, but Windows 7 just improves even more. The new superbar is very helpful. I can't even imagine how stable the final OS will be!

If everyone used Macs we would all look like clones. Thank God for Linux and windows. KDE sucks. I am using it right now with my X61 laptop running openSUSE 11(KDE 4.04) and it is buggy as hell. Supposed to be stable. If I could just get my track point to work with Ubuntu. Another try on the weekend.

Testing done so far on the BETA of 7 shows it to be way faster than either XP or Vista in every category.
7 was found to be three times faster than XP in almost every test ! And this is in Beta still. I`m in.

I have had Vista 64-Bit since it was in beta on my computer and never had one problem. I think Vista is great for the home user but not for businesses. I have 4G of RAM a 3.0GHz CPU and a high-end graphics card. I use Vista for gaming and so on a computer like that it runs fine. I think there is a lot of sour taste from people who went to the store and bought a PC that was "Vista Ready" when really it needed much more power.

I will get Windows 7 but I get tired of the people who say Vista sucks and try to run it on a low end machine. It will run slow and that is the truth, I am a gamer so I know all about hardware and I try to keep up with everything that comes out.

Most users are not like that though, they have 2-4 year old machines and are not sufficient enough to run Vista. Is that a problem? Maybe. I don't complain since I have never had a problem with drivers or the OS in general. Good thing I am a patient person as well since windows UAC can be a little annoying but you get use to it. That or you can just scale it back a bit with a few clicks.

Windows 7 has to be great for Microsoft, if that does not get them back on their feet then I might go over to a a Mac. However I do love upgrading my computer with a passion and it is a bit harder to do that on a Mac.

Hey, all the Windows fans in the world, Oops, sorry, I mean, all the sensible people in the world. Give these "OS X" users a break will you?. Let's take the example in Football! When you see Manchester United pit against a 1 star team of Cocacola championship, do you tease the latter? NO! You know at the end of the day, Manchester United will win. 'Cause they have got 1/2 Pretty face and 1/2 (or more) performance. So at the end of day, Windows wins!

Can't live without a Mac? I, for one, can LIVE without a Windows but can't do anything else without it! Okay, I own an iPod. ONLY BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET A ZUNE! I DON'T CARE IF iPods ARE BETTER THAN ZUNES! Macs ARE CERTAINLY NOT! One guy up there was correct when he told you guys to design a resume' without MS Office! I agree with those guys who love the Hole in the wall better than a rotten apple! Thank You!

Ok fine I've read almost all the comments posted in this section. I'm from india and have never used a mac in my life. Comparison i feel is baseless...alteast for those outside of the US. I've hardly seen anyone using a mac in this part of the world! As far as Vista is concerned, it was heavily criticized by everyone here mainly becoz of it's H/W requirements. But i feel if u got the right box, VISTA IS THE MOST STABLE Windows release..believe it or not. Its a bit bloated & lacks a bit of speed though very efficient. No software is perfect, it's got to be perfected over time. Windows 7, I believe will be near perfect. It's going to be great & am really looking forward to it . I've not had a concrete problem with Vista for months now running SP1 on a 1GB laptop which is 'Vista capable'. Let us learn to appreciate the work done by the engineers...a lot has to be considered while developing an OS...we all know that...not a cakewalk by any means. I hope all of us can put this topic to rest...leave it to the developers...they are the ones who r gonna shape our digital lives! We can only comment & criticize. As for security issues, a wide range of free tools are available & with a few years of experience, troubleshooting aint a big deal atleast for me. I hope mine is the final comment & goes down well with everyone. Although, if anyone disagrees with me, a reply is always welcome. Have a good day.

I think Windows is a great OS when it comes to compatibility & its more practical for business users like me and most ppl who uses computer in this world. Or maybe 50% of the ppl in this world who accounts for almost 80% of the world's wealth. For instance, MS Exchange server is something I can't live without...kinda like blackberry but Windows version...it syncs perfectly with any Windows Mobile based device, and without much setting up hassles. Even if I go to the most remote part of the world...I can be sure to find a Windows based PC/system which I can plug myself into & get back to business. That is what computers are for...to help human work better/easier. Forget the silly UI.

And with Microsoft Direct Push emails...it works like a blackberry without the propriety stuff. And another thing, BlackBerry RIM is not even supported as much as Ms Exchange in a global sense. Find yourself with a blackberry in the far east...you can leave it at your hotel room...its useless, not all mobile operators in the far east support RIM system. What more to say iPhone?

Dual booting an old slow AMD single core PC is not very smart or practical, so now I need a new PC also! I don't think so.

First of all, I own a video production studio in Springfield, MO, and I have always used Windows OS with my company. Now, normally I not comment on posts like this simply because I dont have a lot of time, however, i felt it nessesary to hurry and create an account so that I could inform many consumers and a hand full of professionals about the enormous misconception concerning Windows (including XP and Vista) vs MAC.

I have used Both OS's and find that either one is extremely effective with a wide range of purposes. However the biggest misconception that MAC is "better" than PC (Windows) is completely incorrect. And here is why.

In the late 80's early 90's your options for a computer whether it be for home or business was MAC or PC, kind of like today. But the biggest difference was that neither one of them had the capabilities to do what most of consumers and professionals needed to do accomplish using a computer. For consumers, a user friendly, fully cabable word processing machine, that could also connect to the internet was all that was needed. So Microsoft adopted the "PC" (personal computer) title and marketed towards people who were in need of.....a personal computer! Doing this they were able to use a wide variety of hardware and software to quickly meet the demands of an extremely demanding market. However, reliability and stability were sacrificed because the average consumer didnt need a rock solid machine, they needed somthing that would work. On the other hand MAC did just the opposite, they did not integrate their hardware and software, they spent all their time and money on their own specific product, making a machine that could do high processing, create visual effects (film and video) and graphic design. Creating a much more stable and expensive system that many professionals could use effectively.

Now today you have a company whose offers one product, one solution and is completely known for stability and performance, and another product who is completely integrated and quickly produced with the avergae consumer in mind.

However! BOTH systems, through modern day markets and technology, can provide the same quality and performance to get the job done effectively!

I use Windows Vista and I have no problems with it that I dont have with my MAC. Over the past 7 years I have used most likely 15 to 20 machines, in many different environments, both MAC and Windows, and I know from experience neither one is better than the other.

I would encourage you to experience both systems thouroughly before you start making comments about them based on their stereotypes established 20 years ago.

Take it for what its worth but I think I might switch to Linux...they have some great stuff coming out!
