Comments on: IE 8 Beta 2 not without its faults

While hiccups are expected from beta software, some of the affected services are Microsoft's own.

I have been testing this on a laptop that I have in my office and there are a few things that need fix bad.
The most important is the browser does not support or will not read them correctly bookmarks on pages, I have a website setup and it contains bookmarks that allow a person to jump to that location on the page without having to scroll to it well IE8 does not work on these bookmarks making the site completely unless without them.
IE7, Firefox3, Opera9.5 all work fine with these bookmarks.

Fix this Microsoft first thing.

Thanks.

I had the pretty simple web-site open in two different tabs in the browser, I then started using the developer tools, this crashed IE. When it re-started it rendered the same page completely differently in the two different tabs. One tab had decided that the IE version was suddenly IE6 so the page was rendering as it would normally in IE6, the other was rendering as it should do in IE7+. Nice to see microsoft's coding standards are still up to their usual level. Why it would render the same web-site differently I have no Idea.

I have had no problems at all. I use the internet for work and at home.. so the total time i am on the internet is about 13 hours per day. I have found the new IE 8 Beta to be more useful than trouble. I dont know what the fuss is about vista and microsoft products. Seems to me more people are following a fad than being realistic. I have tried Firefox and Safari and went straight back to IE. As for the chrome that just came out.. It needs work .. alot more work to catch up. Its a nice and shiny new tool but its still in its prime.

Running Vista SP1, After installing IE 8 beta 2 both Firefox and Safari browers started crashing and will not run. I uninstalled IE 8 and even did a restore function but both continue to crash. Has this happened to anyone else?

Ok so its beta you expect issues but you would think that the core program would be about right with only a few glitches but crikey this is appalling. Its like they wrote the first draft of code (while pissed or summat) and then said
" there you go morons you find the bugs and we'll 'fix' em (If we can be arsed). But hey its free quit complainin, beta 500 will be ok ish "
The biggest bug of all is the fact that yet again it wont properly interpret W3C standards. there ya go M$ fix THAT bug.

I have found that I am unable to 'attach photo's' (no preview) when composing e-mails with WLM then I get a error message when trying to send the message and when the recipient gets the mail the message is blank! everything had worked fine until I installed IE8 beta 2 , I also have a upgraded XP home media centre edition to vista 32bit home premium & the gadgets in the side bar are not showing up as before , now they are cramped up , loads of bugs , I think it would be a good idea if beta testers had some form of direct contact with the development team , then at least we could be assured the issues we discover are being resolved, at the moment I have no idea if microsoft even know what effect this has had on my computers?

Tried the IE Beta, for the most part was where I expected it to be as a Beta. I use Qwest ISP which uses MSN Explorer and MSN Mail. After installing, everytime I tried to go to my Calendar on the MSN Mail, it would give me an error message and close out the email application. Just went back and uninstalled the Beta, went back to my IE 7 and all is well. Otherwise, it's got a few growing pains, but doesn't every new app?

I don't know if its related or not, but after installing IE8 Beta 2, I can't see any of my hardware in Device Manager. Also, I can't print on any printers except my default printer (I also have a Dymo Label Printer) and have some problms with some (but not all) java applets (For example, the chat function on mbuzzy.) I am currently running a complete virus/spyware scan and will retract this statement if it finds anything.

Unfortunately, windows (both XP SP3 and Vista) is getting too complex and it is more difficult than ever to diagnose and repair problems.
