Charles: Good luck, man. I've enjoyed reading your columns (most of that time in pure lurker mode) ever since somebody @CNET got a leak about Linus Torvalds' speech on upcoming 2.6 kernel goodies... off the Linux Lunacy cruise... in 2002. Within six hours of his speaking it. We were all flabbergasted (at $10/hr rates while sharing the then-newfangled " internet cafe' " link off the ship across six laptops).

The reason it's called a -30- column is because traditionally the way a writer signifies the end of any piece he or she has written is with a centered -30- immediately following the last line. I have no idea where -30- came to mean "end" in the newspaper business, but it was that way for many years before I left the biz.

I enjoyed writing an article for you ("I Love Spam"), and enjoyed writing Comments and Commentary on issues both philosophical and practical.
I hope that I get a chance to follow what you do on CBS and I'm sure you will be a postitive contributor.

Charles, "Coop" it has always been a pleasure reading your columns, wherever they have been. I go back to CIS days with you at PC Week to now .... whatever is up your sleeve, it will be good! There are smart people (see!) at CBS too!

I think I started reading your columns back in about 1995 on the Interchange platform, where I could "subscribe" to updates. 14 years later, things haven't changed. Good luck.

Yours has been one of the most informative and fun to argue with points of view, Coop. I'll miss the heck out of this conversation.

Best of luck and much success to you on the new project!
