Did people think that the iPhone would never have copy/paste or MMS? Jeez. There was a bundle of third party apps that included things such as video recording and MMS. Within six months the iPhone will have hundreds of decent apps (voice dialing, turn-by-turn GPS voice navigation, maybe even stereo Bluetooth profiles) for users. I guess it's just a matter of patience. I wonder what WinMo 1.0 was like. It's already up to 6.1 and it's still far from perfect. Palm probably hasn't really improved it's OS for years.

Odo, spare us the apologist line. Comparing Iphone 2 to early windows mobile OS's from a decade ago is ludicrous. I must confess I get really tired of the "first generation growing pains" excuses that get thrown about even still.

Apple (and any other company now, for that matter) isn't developing products in a vacuum. They have decades of technological development to learn from when they are producing whatever the new gadget is. To suggest that "patience" is in order when a device comes to market lacking features/options that the market has come to expect is just making excuses for bad design choices.

My point is....well before the iPhone came out...MMS was a basic function of cell phones...my point is why was it not incorporated into the original plans

Well frankly who knows why Apple left it out. Some people may well consider MMS as a basic function of cell phones but I certainly can remember a time when cell phones didn't even come with a camera much less MMS. Anyway I'm sure the iPhone won't remain as it is. With all the software updates I'm sure a lot more functionality will get added over time....

No, the reason is that phone companies are REAMING people over stupid MMS fees. It's outrageous! You have a voice service, and then they charge you PER MESSAGE to send text--that takes a totally NEGLIGIBLE bandwidth.

Apple built the iPhone/iPod Touch with REAL IP access, go through the net for MMS, that is FREE. Or go ahead and pay BY THE MESSAGE if you really prefer or if you think the phone companies are not making enough already.

While this isn't the ideal, here's the fix to send MMS on the new iPhone:

All the wireless carriers transmit your MMS messages via an email address, just plug in the intended wireless phone number with the particular phone company domain and voila! Happy MMS messaging!

It's not just "voilà"!! First you have to know what carrier your friends & family are on-AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, ect... I don't know about all of you but I don't know who all my people are with to type in the "Stupid" email MMS address for. Then when someone sends me one it goes to a stupid website that is 50% up & running. Once you get in by typing a joke of a ID & password to get in to view it, you can't even save the image if you want to. My parents don't have a computer for emailing. I can send them pictures with the MMS emailing, but when they babysit my kids & take them horseback riding or do something else that is fun & the kids look cute. They send me pictures back through MMSing. I can't view it half the time & when I do I can't keep it!! We live for our cell phones & MMSing. This is a major pain in the ***. I just can't believe someone as so far ahead as Apple can put a simple MMS basic feature in the iPhone" without" emailing. Just straight cell phone to cell phone-no matter what carrier your with.
Just like everyone else-Blackberry, Motorola, Samsung, ect...

I just bought an iPhone for my g/f. She loves it, but like everyone else, is very disappointed that there is no MMS. She has 1 more week to decide if she wants to keep it. Apple and AT&T must realize the mistake in the lack of features, because they were offering incentives to purchase an iPhone. I now get 27% off my bill for life now that I have an iPhone on my plan (pays for the required data plan for the iPhone).

I have been seeing some threads that question even the need for "MMS". I think for every thread I have read now it?s not needed, I have seen 100?s responses to why it?s need.

Also, I agree with you ED. Apple has been in business for a long time and Cell phones are only evolving. Why would they de-evolve a cell phone that is supposed to be the best and only cell phone you will ever need.

Right now, I am on the edge of buying an iPhone. Here are the reasons why I won't right now, just to name a few.
1. No MMS (like 100,000's others, I USE IT).
2. Lack of basic functionality like Cut and Paste.
3. No Bluetooth File Transfers/Syncing
4. No Bluetooth Stereo Headsets
5. No Bluetooth pairing w/ other devices (only allow headsets)
6. No Video Recording

How cool would it be to have WM6.1 on an iPhone like device. I like to freedom of the WINDOWS OS on my current AT&T TILT phone. Install software I want w/out MS telling me I can't and w/out having to CRACK it.
